Gael warning in the Congo

The Spitzcop is a great hill and area. Climbed it years ago with a mate as the dated rock gear shows

Hmmm...that picture will stay with me perhaps longer than I wished

Meanwhile the GS is having oil and filter change and valve clearance checked (inlet valves were out which may explain some of the increased fuel consumption).

Another unfortunate image..the Pimlico plumbers of Windhoek?

The valve clearance was out and the brake fluids were also replaced along with engine and final drive oil.

The valve adjustment really made a difference and I found myself flying South at 130/140kmh.

Soon it was time to say goodbye to the tropics

It's going to be a hot one today as I head for S Africa

Covered a fair bit of ground over the past 28 hours (left Windhoek 1ish yesterday)

The Kalahari scenery was spectacular, so fabulous I realized taking photos was futile. But here are a couple anyway

Leaving Namibia and entering S Africa was very easy, and friendly...would have taken 10 minutes except I wanted a Temporary Import Permit for the GS just in case I decided to either ship it from SA or leave it here rather than in Namibia.

So had to persuade Customs to issue that and of course their computer was on a go slow!

However they could not give me more than a 6 month TIP which is about a month short of what I would need as the earliest I could get back here is late September.

Today's run...and did I mention it was hot?

At several fuel stations I went to the gents and took off my technical shirt and soaked it with water...great cooling for about an hour.

Finally made it to the quiet little town of Clanwilliam, reputedly the home of rooibos.

But I prefer a glass of the other red berry

Thanks tjmouse!

Coming down the Cape the contrast from the desert to the irrigated fields was striking. Here is my view at breakfast today in Clanwilliam

The autumnal beauty continued. It was a cool morning with sew on the bike, and I rode gently south marvellinuat my surroundings, whether wineries or other crops or amazing mountain ranges...biker heaven!

Then as I climbed ok bro the Overberg mountains the clouds gathered and it rained ...and rained.

Learning my lesson from my drenching in Botswana, 8 was into my waterproofs as soon as I felt a drop.

As I pulled away, I felt something on my left leg and saw the air intake had fallen off. Never a dull moment wi5h my GS... probably reminding me not to take her for granted! I managed to grab the air intake and come to a safe halt by the roadside.

I carries on through the beautiful roads (and steady rain!) and was impressed that my now squared off tkcs, fitted in Cameroon, still felt very secure on the corners and bends.

And finally got there!
