Bit of a step up for the Gardí. They seem to be ditching the FJ's and moving to something with a bit more class.

And they didn't do it on the cheap this time. The Fjr's were not police specials. They were civillian bikes tarted up. The wiring looms were cut into in order to. Fit the Tetra kits and strobes. There were several of the bikes that had serious electrical gremlins. Then the famous collapsing suspension event that grounded the fleet :augie. Let's hope management give all these bikes to traffic in the castle and don't send them around the country.

They will have been bought at a price that the public wish they could pick them up for

Really? Why so?

I know that this may well come as a bit of a shock Luke, but there is life beyond the pale y'know.

I would be tempted by a reasonably priced FJ13.

Do any chums in the Republic know how the Garda dispose of their vehicles - auction, agent etc ?

Thanks Chopps

Been to the factory - they're built as Plod bikes from the start - They do all kinds: Polizei, CHP you name it.

Auction usually. Can be a minefield. Some horror stories. 100'rrds of years ago it is said if you bidded against a certain person that the keys would disappear. JJH

The traffic cops here in Dublin have been doing escorts on Dullville 650's :augie and the bikes are not fit for that type of riding. I saw one escort where the bike holding traffic at an intersection could not get up enough speed to piggyback to the next junction due to the number of vehicles in the escort. Several VIP's have been left without bike escorts recently.

They dispose of them though Wilson car auctions here in Dublin but all of the Yamaha FJR's have more than 100,000 miles on them  and have been ragged to the end of their life.

Are you a serving officer ?

and they knock them out at a stupidly low price (barely covers production cost) JUST so that they can have the kudos, of being THE police motorcycle !!!!

They may be freebies as a long term demo fleet, cheap advertising .

No, they don't offer them that cheap. Whilst like all Fleet vehicles, 2 & 4 wheels, they are offered at a discount, the Authorities Division has to, & is, profitable.
