I have just purchased a 2610 & would like to mount it on the screen bracket of my 1200 GS as opposed to the handlebars.
Could someone please reccomend me a bracket that would allow me to do this, I`ve searched the net but I`m struggling to find one.
Also, how long does it take to charge the unit when plugged into the mains, I`ve had it plugged in for 2 hours but when I un-plug & then switch on - nothing - yet when switched on while plugged in its all fine. I assume that the battery may be US & if so can the battery be replaced.
I would also like to wire direct to the battery, is this OK & if so do I need to include a fuse & what size.
Many thanks in advance....:thumb

Wire it into the canbus plug for easy use and lack of hassle, usually.

IIRC there's been the sort of mounts you've been after on ebay, basically milled aluminium that clamps on the bracket. Or TT do an adapter type thingy.

Hi there is no battery in the 2610 mains or bike power only. If you have the bike cradle it is easy to knock up a mounting.
See ebay for the cradle, item No: 370103673108
The 2610 is a great bit of kit, all the satnav you will ever need.
Good luck

Thanks for the help so far...:thumb
Also need an earpiece set if anyone knows where the best place to get some from.

If you're on a budget, can wield a soldering iron, and just want audio out into your lid then you can build your own using bits from Maplin. They do thin Mylar speakers that sit very comfortably within the ear recesses behind the lining of my Arai. Wiring these up to a lead incorporating a 3.5mm jack, a curly 3.5mm > 2.5mm extension lead (previously 3.5-3.5mm but altered with a 2.5mm jack) plugs into the audio fly lead off the GPS and goes around my tank-bag where I plug in the lead from my lid. This cost less that £20 including postage.

This works far better than I expected with my StreetPilot 2720 up to naughty speeds with ear plugs. The 2720 has volume that can increase with speed, not sure if the 2610 has that.

If you want extended functionality like intercom, phone, MP3 etc then you'll need to look into an Autocom system or similar.

A small helmet speaker is what you need. The jack plug is 2.5mm mono.
I got this one off a radar detector.
You could rig one up even using an mobile phone ear piece.
Listening to directions on a satnav is essential for me, I do not take my eyes off the road.

Thanks Patzx12. I`ve got numerous pairs of 3.5mm plug sized earpieces for my I-Pod. I`ve found some adaptors on the web to convert 3.5mm to 2.5mm so I might give them a try as their only pence to buy.
Thanks again.

Maplins do them as well, but, I used them on my Quest via an Autocom, and got lots of interference.

Cheers for that John..:thumb
The numpty problem I have now is trying to delete all the routes etc + home info from the unit so as I can input my own home address in..:nenau

You mean the seller left his/her Home address in the system :eek::eek::eek: - now who is the numpty?

Can't recall how to do it off the top of me head but will have a look when I get home tonight and see how it's done.

If you usually wear earplugs you'll soon tire of the extra wind noise. I even tried some in-ear ones that came with three changeable silicon ear plugs but they still weren't that effective. As mentioned by John; Maplin do an over the ear one sided ear-piece (I think that's what he's referring to), when I tried that with ear plugs it worked OK but a/ was easily dislodged as you put your helmet on, and b/ was uncomfortable over long periods. There are sellers on eBay that do Velcro backed thin in-helmet speakers that you can use with ear-plugs. Just do a search for 'helmet speakers'.

The interference that John refers to when used with an Autocom is down the fact that he's not using the special isolating lead (from Autocom). If you're running your audio directly off the GPS without an intercom you won't get this unless there's something seriously wrong with your ignition system/bike electrics.

Thanks for that Zoomboxer, last night at work I read through the guide book & eventually managed to delete all the previous owners routes & replace his home address...:thumb

As to the earpiece issue Bumpkin, thanks for your info mate. I currently use an "in-the ear" set up for my I-Pod so I think I`ll try the cheapest option first with a 3.5mm to 2.5mm converter & see how I get on. I`ve seen on the web some that attached to the inside of your helmet which seems OK, but I`m not sure I`d want them in all the time as you don`t use the satnav on every ride...:thumb

I think I`ve found a cockpit bracket which attaches to the windscreen mount at this website -

http://www.ztechnik.co.uk/

Item number: ZT-Z6194

If anyone out there has used one of these or can recommend a different one please let me know.

Still need to find out wether I`m to attach a fuse when connecting the power supply direct to the battery & if so what size fuse....:nenau:nenau

Thought the wire that slips into the back of the 2610 already had an in-line fuse attached - mine does anyway.

My set up is - the wire has an in-line fuse (3A) and an Optimate connector block at the end; I bought the other Optimate block to fit it and connected this to the +'ve and -'ve terminals of the battery - this has a 15A blade fuse in it. When not in use I just pull the block apart. So, just to confuse things a bit further it appears that I have 2 fuses fitted - probably a bit of over-kill but it works!

However, as your bike is the 1200 I think fitting is a bit different due to the canbus - do a search using 2610 and 1200 see what comes up.

so its a 12GS with 2610 and I assume its (a) RAM cradle (b) Garmin cradle (c) Touratech cradle frame ?.

I tend to suggest siting it on the LHS on the oval rail so its comes near/next to the clocks.

So for ...
(a) RAM-B-149Z has RAP-319 shim for padding out the oval rail, worth adding rubber warp around it as well same applies to following as well.

(b) RAM-B-149Z-G1 which was the older SPIII mountand I would use the screw pack to secure the Garmin cradle, you'll find out when you come to unplug with the bolts Garmin supply.

(c) RAM-B-149Z undo clamps on underside of TT cradle and diamond base in the mount locates on the two holes in the centreline, use existing TT fixings that hold their clamps which have been removed

this works well - I have a similar one, made by padge of this parish.

Puts it in just the right place:thumb2

As regards to your charging the unit;it has no internal battery. You need a hardwire:)
Get a RAM and a solid cradle but not torx-screwable Garmin cradle.

P.S.YOU DON'T NEED AN ARM AS IT WOULD BE TOO HIGH AND PRONE TO VIBRATION.

But it doesn't have to be that complicated - this mount from Migsel bolts onto the 1200GS screen bracket. The Garmin cradle bolts onto that. The Touratech (or see other threads here to make your own up) power lead fits directly into the pre-wired Canbus socket in the wiring near the headstock on the 1200GS/GSA.

Takes 20 minutes, no complicated wiring, GPS ends up in exactly the right place.
