Hi Guys,

I would like to be able to connect my 2820 to a Pocket PC so I can download Track data from the 2820 on long trips. I have spoken to Garmin, but they where about as much help a chocolate fire guard. Has any body done this sort of connectivity or am I P*****G in the wind

Cheers

Ty

I've looked everywhere on the net i could think of and found nothing. I had the same wish for my quest and ipaq 2210.

Maybe something with an usb host might work but then you'll need drivers.

I gave up :nenau

Prul, you are right - to connect to any GPS, the device to which it attaches must act as a 'USB host' and no PDA acts as a host. It has to be a PC or laptop.

Is there perhaps some sort of self powered bluetooth hub device that the garmin can plug into.

Paul, there are pocketpc's wich act like usb host. Some toshiba and fujitsu loox models.

But then you would still need drivers that work. You can't use mapsource :rob

@ ty, bluetooth would allso need drivers

Prul, I stand corrected, you are right! Looking at your link above and also at http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=681 - it has built-in SiRF Star III GPS too as well as USB host. Very neat :clap

If your PocketPC has a CF card slot, could you try using a USB host CF card adaptor ? Do you think it would work ?

Quoted from the second link above:

"Why not get the Asus A730W pocket pc. Comes with usb host. It works great. I'm actually typing this out using a usb keyboard and mouse on the A730W. And yes it does support usb hubs. Plus it can connect external hard drives to it. Tried it with a 250GB external usb and works great!!! Went a little further to plug in a usb burner but didn't work. Didn't expect it to anyways. Great product from Asus. Everyone should check it out!! "

Surely the Asus A730W would just see your Garmin as an HDD ??

As for Mapsource software running on a Pocket PC, over to Garmin for porting that across..... Having a copy of something like "Mobile Mapsource for Pocket PC" would be pretty cool for the Adventure riders, imagine being able to browse Mapsource on a PDA rather than a bulky laptop, compile a new route or track, then upload to the GPSR for it to navigate you using Garmins chosen maps.
