I know its just for 4 wheelers, but a question...

Mate bought a Garmin C320 with v7... he is under the impression that his free upgrade to v8 will enable him to do a full postcode search...would that be correct?

Also on seeing his unit in action, it appears to differ from my outgoing 2610 in as much as if you are following a route there appears to be no actual speed display on the screen...

Is there any way to get a speed reading whilst following directions on the map page?

Ta in advance Bryn

Garmin has disabled the option on cheaper units like the Quest because its a cheaper license fee to NavTeq the map suppliers. If it's a cheap unit then don't expect a free lunch or the ability to pass go.

I don't know about the C320, but with the 2610 you can alter what is displayed in the tabs while routing, for example, I don't have speed displayed while routing but I do when not routing. Try pressing the menu button in different situations.

The Quest uses the same bios software as the Quest 2 (i've ran them both through a dissassembler). I'm waiting for someone to enable the feature via a 'hack'. :beerjug:

The Quest (1) is perfectly capable of having a speed readout when following a route; just do as gasman says. Since the original question was about the C320, though, if it is the same as the i3 then you get a speed readout only when not following a route.

I'm a bit surprised that someone who is capable of 'dissassembling the bios software', can't find this feature on the Quest. ;)

No. It's only units with CN8 NT that can do full post code search.

There is a release due for the c320/c330 but garmin don't have any release dates for it. If you email or give them a call they will take your address details and once they have the updates in they're sending them out to all the customers that have contacted them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this and all the other replies :thumb

Please keep us posted. I would be very interested if you can enable full postcode searching as I'm sure many others on here would,

Cheers

"The only difference is the compression technique we use to create these DVDs."

They both support Postcode's. Nat 8 isn't the same as City Select but because the bios on the Quest isn't enabled to look for postcode data it ignores it. Quest 2 has this enabled.
I think you are wrong. I have seen several explicit statements from Garmin saying that it is only units with CN8 NT that can do full postcode search.

Also - I have both CN8 and CN8 NT on my PC.

With CN8 NT selected in MapSource the Find Places menu have a "Postal Code" tab present. Selecting CN8 makes this tab disappear. Conclusion is that it's not enough with a unit with firmware supporting post code search. Also the CN8 NT map is required.

Quest 1 is not able to do full post code search and won't be in the future either.

C320 will have a postcode search once the update is finally released whenever that will be.

Quest 2 is able to do full postcode search.

Its right that nt mapping does full post code and previous versions don't.
