Garmin Express

paul i could never get map updater to work once express was launched:nenau
Not too sure that I understand what you are saying: do you mean that Garmin Express interferes with Garmin Map Installer? If so, just shut Garmin Express down and run Garmin Map Installer. Or does Garmin map Installer no longer work?

Have now managed to update PC and zumo 660 using Map Updater.
Zumo now has 2014.10 loaded (but the 3D is not shown separately as some have mentioned here).
PC has 2011 and 2014 maps on it now, with the 2014 ones ticked.

Well done, it is important to make sure that the correct version of the maps is checked in the Maps dropdown menu in Basecamp. And that the Zumo/Nav IV and Basecamp are using the same maps

I believe that you only need the 3D maps on the Zumo if you use the 3D option. I don't think they are used in Basecamp as I don't believe that you can use Basecamp in 3D mode

Just had the usual faff to update to 2014.1 mapping.

Using 660 and a Mac - wish I had read these comments first......

System only lets you use Garmin Express from the official website. But only allowed the mapping to be updated on 660 not on Basecamp. In the end I gave up after 5 hours and rand Garmin.

They sent me the link to MapUpdater and then talked me through it - set to download Western Europe to device and Mac - it failed after an all night download - tried again the following day - failed after 8 hours!!!!

Only way I could find to sort it was to download the UK and Ireland only to both device and Mac - then it went on OK - Then had to set about adding map tiles for the rest of Europe......

What a complete load of bollox the system is and Garmin are ramming us for upgrade costs when it is not quite sure of the process itself.

Wouldnt normally complain but just feel like the wasted time over the last few days was specifically down to poor service from Garmin.

Boy the people at Garmin need their head screwed on. Went to update my maps and the old Garmin Lifetime Updater (didn't have much of a life) was replaced by Garmin Express as mentioned. The new Garmin Express is better than Lifetime Updater but then I noticed that the map didn't update to my computer. After searching threads gave up and called Garmin as I have a Mac not PC.

Hello Garmin I am trying to update the maps on my computer with Garmin Express on my MAC?

Sir, we want to make the experience better for you so we have removed that functionality and you will have to plug in your Garmin every time you want to run Basecamp.

Why would I want to have to plug in my Zumo every time I want to use Basecamp?

We found that users had different versions of maps on their device and computer and was confusing.

Yes it is confusing. Is perhaps the cause of why users have different versions of maps on the computer and Zumo as a result of your software not updating both at the computer and Zumo at the same time?

Yes.

Do you think having to plug in the Zumo every time you want to run Basecamp is a positive user experience?

No actually. It sounds really cumbersome to be honest.

So why wouldn't you just update both the device and Basecamp at the same time?

Good question.

Where on your website can I find the information that you have removed all functionality to install maps onto the computer?

It is not on our website Sir.

Do you prefer more calls or less from consumers trying to use your product?

I guess less would be better.

:blast:blast:blast:blast

Anyways to save others the trouble here is the workaround. I got both the PC and MAC versions because the support person thought it would be the same for a PC and MAC. :blast
