Quick look at the spec shows its more basic than a V.
s*d all memory and I don't think it does routing at all.
£30 novelty value to the kids?

Fer Pete's sake, the goddamn thing is an antique, a doorstop. If the person offering it to you is offering it free of charge, or perhaps in exchange for a couple of pints, fine, go for it. You can fool around with it and learn how a GPSR works. You can then put that knowledge to good use when you go shopping for a contemporary GPSR.

Garmin have discontinued them, the same way Intel has discontinued 386 based computer processers and Hayes has discontinued production of 1,200 BPS modems. All three decisions were made around the same time.

A old GPS III might be useful for a hillwalker who never strays more than 15 miles from the same home base. But for automotive or moto navigation in 2006, it's totally useless.
