Got a Zumo 500 in june 07. Served me well going to Croatia and back through various bits of Europe and then Spain last year. Going to Spain/France agin tghis year so thought I'd update the software via my partners PC (I only use Macs) and it all went swimmingly so I thought...!

Having done all it said, I tried to turn it on and it just wouldnt boot. I treid everything but no way was it having it. Rung Garmin explained what I'd done, and as I couldnt get it to connect to the PC they told me to send it back with a warranty #. Well I've been expecting a call to say its X amount to re install the software or similar, but the call didnt come.

Courier delivered a box from Garmin this afternoon so I thought "YIPPEE they've mended it....."

Well you could have blown me over - a brand new 550 in the box and an acknowledgement slip......

:oonyack

Brilliant Garmin, bloody brilliant...... One very happy customer!

:thumbI occasionally deal with Garmin and TomTom service departments in the course of my modest employment and Garmin have at times amazed me with their ability to support customers. On a personal level, the saga of my Nuvi, bought as a clearance item, was more than impressive. +1 for Garmin.:thumb2

Helpline's good as well :thumb Free phone number and I've never had to wait long to speak to a real human:clap

Big stooopid grin.....

TBH I would have been happy to pay a repair fee, as I'm not conviced it wasn't somthing I did....! (first time using old Zumo on new Vista based machine) I explained that to the helpline chap, but told him what I had done.....

To get a new replacement is FIRST CLASS service and such that has earned them a completely loyal customer....

Garmin = Snap-On of Sat Navs?

Anyhoo looking at my newbie sat here I cant help but have a big grin on my chops...:thumb2

Looks like clearout of some ancillary parts coming up..... ;)

I had a similar experience with a 2720. It worked OK after a trip down the road on Stelvio Pass but looked a bit bomb damaged. Then I put it in a pocket with a bunch of keys and totally buggered the screen.

Phoned Garmin to check how much to fix it. They said send it back and they will quote and repairs would take three weeks. Stuck the head unit in a Ziffy bag and posted it back (cost £2.00). Two days later a courier delivered a complete new retail boxed system with a free of charge invoice.

At around the same time my wife's Rider packed up. One week of service centre emails offering stupid solutions was followed by a request to contact their delivery company to arrange for it to be collected. Took time of work to wait for the courier to collect and followed that by eight weeks of phone calls and emails before Tomtom agreed to replace it. The replacement has since packed up.

When my 2720 was stolen it may come as no suprise that I bought a Zumo

I have just come back from the Post Office after sending my Zumo 550 to them for repair.

The Zumo will not charge from any cradle, just the direct link to a wall socket.

The phone support was excellent and, like you, mine is over a year old. They
agreed to repair it whilst I was on the phone and gave me an RMA number.

Very impressed so far.

Courier just delivered my Zumo back from Garmin earlier this afternoon.

Firstly, thats REALLY quick service as I only sent it to them late Friday last week.

Secondly, they have sent a complete new boxed unit with all the fittings and accessories.

I am even more impressed now:)

Well done Garmin:clap
