Hi all,

I dont really want to carry a pc around with me on an 8 month trip coming up with the bike. What Id like to know if there is a clever simple way of transfering maps from the cds to the unit via the cable, but without having to install the ´mapsource software on the cd.

Id like to use the map source maps for europe when travelling through france and italy.

Any ideas much appreciated,

Cheers,
Brian

Easiest thing would be to have a second card with the maps you need already loaded on it...
Not on a Garmin V alas, built-in memory only no cards.

To answer the original question, no there is no alternative to taking a laptop and downloading maps as you need them - cracking GPS unit though :thumb

If you’re using a Garmin V, I don’t think there is an easy solution because it doesn’t have plug in memory. I suspect you will need to take a laptop or just use the base mapping :(

(P.S. The Toshiba R100 is a great mini notebook and would be ideal for a long trip :) )

Ahhh ... never used one myself ... didn't know they had built in memory...

A cheap laptop is the only way forward ... also useful for uploading your digital pictures and playing music or DVDs ... I have an IBM T21 for exactly that purpose...

Thanks guys

But I didnt want to take my little notebook with me again on a big trip - too much to worry about.

thanks for the clarification though
