Got on the bike this morning, but chilly compared to the last few weeks - warm bike up for a couple of mins, water temp 25C - normal 'clonk' as I tap it positively into 1st gear (don't tickle it!) - set off slowly down the road to continue warming up the bike (I hate revving a cold engine too much), up into 2nd, 3rd, 4th without thinking about it or noticing anything untoward.

Continue to St.Ives town centre, up and down the box between 1,2 and 3 - hmmmmm this gearbox is actually feels pretty good, has something changed? - out of the town towards the A14, engine warm so can go a bit faster, the Long Road to Fenstanton is fast when empty of traffic so get up to 6th, back down the box through Fenstanton and then accelerate hard onto the A14 slip road - lots of fast acceleration and gear changes as I weave (filter carefully) though the traffic :D - few minutes later I turn off at the Bar Hill junction park up at Tescos, bike slips into neutral first attempt - meet my son for breakfast - all in all about a 10 mile commute.

Don't know whether the bike is now run-in at 9,600 miles or whether I have mastered the gear change technique, or maybe it's because the temperature has dropped but the gearbox felt pretty sweeeeeeeet :D at least as good if not better then my twin-cam. Hope it continues like this.

me too with miles

Yep mine is a lot better with miles ive now done 7000 and its a far smoother box than when it was new, as you say most changes are so smooth you dont notice or think about it.
I wonder if there is anyone out there brave enough to change their oil from Castrol 05w 40 to say 10w 40 or different brand as I bet this will also make a difference.

Spoke to a chap at Rainbow BMW yesterday who had 8000 miles or so on his GS. He also said the gearbox is now sweet, no mods, no oil draining, just mileage and it feels fine now.

So, it would seem that the new WC GS is a proper GS after all. As they get better and better as you pile on the mileage.
