Gear Shift Assist

That's interesting. I was under the impression that it was Sept 2013 onwards. How do you identify QS compatible bikes?

I think we're in violent agreement. Model year 2014 bikes start somewhere in August 2013 iirc.

So do you know if there's a plan to tweek the 2013 software ?? :P

On order as of today, think mine is one of the first 2014 spec bikes (with steering damper) & purchased first week in October 2013 from Pidcocks..

Giles I think it's a bit more than software that needs tweaking, something to do with wiring loom, i'm in the same boat with an early bike but im thinking of going with the retrofit translogic.

Yes, Understood.

I'm on PCP and will be upgrading in 14 / 15 months or so, so I'll just have to suffer Nutty's gloating for a little while longer .... :D

From the gear lever side have a look on the back of the gearbox there should be a black plug with a cap on it, this will identify it, apart from asking your dealer. Thats the loom that plugs into the quick shitter .

There's the failure of your argument, right there. It completely depends on what purpose the bike was bought for. Just because you bought yours to ride to Afghanistan or whatever, doesn't invalidate my desire to change gear using the quickshifter while on my way to waitrose because I've run out of almond croissants.

No failure jtb, I, clearly, am the subject of this particular argument as I can't speak about the purpose for which others have bought their bikes. I was following up on our privileged friend GP Longford's contribution for whom the primary reason for adding the accessory was simply because 'he could'. Rather strange rationale given that I suspect we all could and thus I couldn't resist a riposte. Prior to that I was sharing my confusion with the Norwegian BMW dealership, albeit the reason for my confusion was different.

As I see it, the gear shift assist will certainly help the second-hand buyer because it would suggest that the bike was bought and used almost exclusively on tarmac. Please don't misunderstand, Waitrose runs are a perfectly good use of the bike, I'm just envious because we don't have said supermarket chain in NI, meaning I have to stop in at your stores en route to Kabul! :augie

...by a previous owner who liked to rag the shit out of it :augie

Yes I agree - a QS on a second hand bike says that to me too .... :thumb2

so if you're selling a bike with a quick shifter, take it off and sell it separately. win-win :thumb

..and don't let on here that you had one :D

Mr Ding Dong.

Would appreciate a picture of the said Plug. I had a look behind my shift lever. Lots of plugs and connections , but nothing that isn't plugged to something else I would have to say.

My dealer has checked my VIN number and has duly ordered the quickshifter. I would rather double check.

cheers and thanks in advance.

Yeah, but Cookie rides like a girl ...... :D
