2018 Rallye TE 6000 miles

Anyone else had this? It has happened a couple of times previously over 6000 miles but I put that down to - well, I don't know, teething troubles? Anyway, I have done about 60 miles today and it has stopped working three times. Turning the bike off and then starting up again fixes it - until the next time. There is no obvious trigger, it just stops 'assisting'. Shifting like a Neanderthal with the clutch works fine. Any thoughts?

Cheers

Chris

I do find it a little temperamental at times, but not actually to stop working yet....!??!

When you say "stops working", in what way does it prevent you from shifting the gear?

Are you not able to shift gear at all, or is it that the shifting does not cut the engine on upshift or blip the engine at down shift?
The way I understand it, the shifter mechanism is merely a unit that transfers the shifting action between the pedal and gearbox and on the way it compresses slightly, activating a swithch that sends a shifting signal to the ECU, and the ECU software either cuts the engine for upshift or blips the engine for down shift. If this does not work properly you most likely will not be able to read a faultcode, but the shifter has an intermitten faulty switch and needs to be replaced.

Sorry if I was not clear knutk. The gear shift lever and mechanism works fine, as does the clutch, and I can change gears normally just as one would without shift assist fitted. What happens is I loose gear shift assist functionality - the engine power is not cut during upshifts nor is there a 'blip' on downshifts. Stopping the bike and turning the ignition off and then back on resolves the issue - until next time.

It is possible that the transducer in the shifter gives an 'out of limits' signal to the ECU which then shuts off shift assist, but if that is the case I would expect the dealer to see a fault code - which they did not mention seeing at the service last week. Whether the service could be in any way connected I cannot know, but it seems unlikely. If the shifter transducer simply stopped sending a signal to the ECU then I would not expect turning off and on again to resolve it as the shifter transducer is just a 'dumb' strain gauge as far as I can see. I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow so we will see what they can come up with.

I went for a ride this evening, about 40 miles and it worked perfectly throughout.

Another one re the WC models done to death, either the unit has packed in (not that uncommon) or much more likely it will need recalibration and an ecu update ................ dealer job

Relearn procedure:

Start the engine with the transmission in neutral and allow the engine to idle for ten seconds.

Then drive the rear wheel in each gear for at least ten seconds, shifting gears in the usual way, in other words by disengaging the clutch. Take suitable measures lo allow the rear wheel to run safely.

Then switch the ignition off for at least ten seconds to save the new adaptation values.

The dealer checked the fault codes and it turns out that there were nine fault occurrences for the Shift Assist. They swapped in a new sensor and all appears to be well.

While the bike was in the dealer they found several more loose spokes in the front wheel...

Hi there Chris when you say they swapped the sensor, do you mean the actual switch or is there an additional sensor connected with gear assist pro ?

So seems they are taking the spoke issue more seriously now.
