Hi Guys

about a week ago my 1150gs with 25k on the clock has started whining when the gearbox is under load roll off the throtle or pull the clutch and the noise goes away, it also does it quite loudly when the engine is cold ticking over on the stand, pull the clutch in and the noise stops is this somthing that most GS's do as they age or should i be worrying and looking for replacement gearboxes etc??

Thanks in advance for your sage advice.:(

Sorry mate, we can't help with whines at the moment, we are all working on Clonks, give it a couple of days.

:D

It sounds like one of your gearbox bearings is on the way out, when you pull the clutch in it disconnects the gearbox so all moyion is stopped.

You have two choices
1) let the noise develop a bit while you mentally prepare youself to either do the job or have it done , but not too long

2) take it to bits now and replace the bearing/s

STOP USING THE BIKE AND SORT IT ASAP !!!

This is almost certainly the clutch bearing or the gearbox output bearing.

Mine was just like yours, and it rapidly worsened, finally letting go with a horrific whining screetch, and my bike stopped in a cloud of acrid grey smoke.
The bearing had actually disintegrated, and it jammed the clutch pushrod which snapped and caused the clutch to burn out.
Also, bits of bearing were flung all around the gearbox, which could have locked up at speed.
Some bits were even found in the shaft tunnel....

DON'T RISK IT......FIX IT.
