I've just been trying to track down a mystery rattle on my 1200ST, usually heard at low speeds over rough surfaces. Its not brake bobbins - done them, that rattle disappeared. Its not the fender-extender thing either. I thought it might be the screen mounts (well known for rattles on the ST), but nope, not that either. :nenau

Anyway, whilst rooting about I noticed that there's about 1/4" of in-out movement on the gearlever, plus a tiny bit of 'up-down' on the shaft, if that makes sense. Looking at the diagram, is it anything to do with the items numbered 8, or is it normal? Oh, it rattles! :)

Replacement plastic bushes are only a couple of £.

The only solution to rattling noise is check everything. Bit by bit.

I'll order a pair anyway I think.....last of the big spenders. :thumb2

Er...no I won't! A re-inspection has revealed that, by loosening the pinch bolt on the lever, it can be pushed further onto the splined shaft, which removes most of the in-out movement! :blast It doesn't rattle now. Too bloody hot for a run out at the moment, but I'm hoping my mystery noise has gone!

You could source or make some plastic washers to take up the float.
