I've not tried a Sargent, but have tried gel inserts and the airhawk.

I don't find gel makes the seat any more comfortable as the same amount of pressure still goes through your arse, but it does take some of the vibration away.

The airhawk does add comfort imo, but also feels like you sat on jelly, no matter how much/little air you put in. Therefore I found the airhawk good for long motorway drags, but not too good for the twisties as I felt like I was moving around too much on the seat.

Have just talked to Tony Archer and am dropping my seat off next week...I'll talk through the options with him but does anyone have any thoughts on gel vs memory foam?

Got a Bagster gel seat on my 1150. It was on when I bought it, so I've not tried anything else. Managed over 5hrs without getting off.

I had the seat on my 800GS reupholstered with a gel pad on the base to reduce vibes coming thru the seat and memory foam on top to improve comfort, certainly worked for me.

Yep another T Archer fan here!, best £60 ever re gel pad. Note* he did also widen my 07 1200 Adv seat at the front/sides by 10mm each.

But the best thing I ever did? was put the front seat setting on high and the back setting on low, stops you been pushed forward worked for me

seats should be in Tony Archers as i type this !!! however one question, before i packed them up and sent them i raised the bar at the front and the bar at the back to low, just to see how it was, i noticed a gap between the seat and the tank of about half an inch, is this normal due to the configuration of the seat or have i been an idiot and not put the seat back on properly ?

Looking for some advice reference my adv seats. I find them seriously uncomfortable and have been looking as to what i can do with them, i see alot of people are going for gel inserts and was wondering if they were worth the money and if so where is the best place i can get them sorted or is there any alternatives with the exception of sticking a cushion under my backside ?

There's a lot of people raving about the Sargent seat, my only question is if I decided to purchase both front and back, where is the best/quickest/cheapest place to buy and how much could I sell my original seats for to help offset the cost?

You could also try the Stadium Seat from these people http://www.putnams.co.uk/travel.htm. Same principle as Airhawk, maybe less durable but they cost £7.50 if I remember correctly. I bought one based on other people's recommendations but I haven't tried it out yet.

Unless you buy used, there is no place to get cheap Sargent seats. They are imported from the U.S. and (AFAICR), Calamander is the UK stockist.
The last thing you want to do is sell the oe seats. You sell the Sargents once you've decided to sell the bike the Sargents are fitted too. That way, you get a good proportion of your money back.

Cheers Davy, sound advice no doubt. Still, it's a lot of money just to plonk your butt on. Just think of the size of seat you can get from DFS for that kind of money. I used to have a Corbin Seat fitted to my CBR1000F, cost me £199 brand new. I had a quick look at theirs for the GS but, OMG, how gaudy!

I also remember getting a very nice seat from a company called PP seating or something like that from, I believe, Birmingham for my Blackbird. £180. Can someone please explain from what material is a Sargent seat made from to justify such a cost? I know there's a saying about if you've got a £50 head buy a £50 helmet but I can't imagine my lilly white arse is worth quite that much!

It is alot of money to spend on a seat, but (IMO) it was the best money I spent on my GS when I had it (Les Wassells HID's were the next best thing ).

I've had gel seats and they are an improvement. Problem I had was leaving the bike in the sun. The gel heats up and scalds your delicate bits. Not an unpleasant experience
