I am currently planning a trip next month to Landal Marina in Lipno Czech Republic to attend the European Indian Motorcycle Rally. I have booked accommodation at the rally venue but nothing for the transit to that location.
I have booked the ferry Newcastle to Amsterdam and have two and a half days to get to Lipno. I would like to avoid motorways and take a lazier route through small town and villages. Google maps shoes the fast route (motorways) 10 hours via Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremburg. The non motorway route follows a similar track but further north and estimates 16 hours.
My only prior experience of Germany is blatting down autobahns to get to places as quick as possible and staying in cities. So I would like to take my time and see a bit more of the country, I have 2.5 days to cover 662 miles (slow route avoiding autobahns). Any suggestions of small towns or villages to overnight at on this route. Should I be looking at Guesthouses, Pensions etc. Is it advisable to book or possible to wing it and look for somewhere on the day (mid June).
Secondly from what I can see there are no tolls in the Netherlands and Germany with the exception of some bridges and tunnels. For the Czech Republic it appears they do have tolls for which a Vignette is required but it looks to me that motorcycles are exempt, anyone ridden the Czech Republic that can confirm that?
