After hearing a few stories of long journeys with 1200GSs breaking down - here's the flip side.

I just got back yesterday froma five day trip taking in Holland, Belgium and Germany with a mate. we did a fair number of miles and based ourselves near the Nurburgring in the Eifell mountain area. The roads around there are amazing - hairpin after hairpin - great stuff.

The bike performed a dream. The luggage was never a hinderance and buffeting was down to a minimum even with the standard screen and motorway journeys. I did three laps of the Nurburgring in the damp (drying track) while it was quiet - my first track laps ever - being fairly new to biking and the bike did me proud. I manage to equal Mr Clarkston's Jag time on my third lap so all went well.

Here's afew pics of the trip.

The idiots car!

Ride careful - there are stupid car drivers out there that are too old to be driving and could spoil your fun at any time,

Fortunately my mate got away with a broken wrist - it could have been a lot worse - especially if my mate was riding as fast as the driver claims - but then he also says he didn't see him  even with a view down the road of 300yds!!!:shoot:

Wow Stoney that was a shock to read at the end of a great write up and pics.

Looking at that your mate seems to have been lucky - presumably you were riding behind him?

Hope he sues the muppet well.

mixed emotions

Sadness: Geez I was just saying what a beautiful CBR. We've never had that colour scheme and it looks (ed) mint. Hope he faired better, no pun intended, than the bike.

Envy: Which do I envy most. The N-ring run you did or the fact that the Rallye jacket fits you but not me. Ugh.

Nice pics. Here's hoping all your future trips are less eventful.

Stoney! Glad you did the trip (Sorry to hear about your mate!) I did this years first Ring-trip during Easter, got the year ticket so now I have no excuses to stay at home :P Managed some 20 odd laps or so (was quite wet and after sliding both wheels exiting Hatzenbach I decided that my wet-riding for that trip was done).

Where did you put the Ring-sticker? :D And when are you going back?! :D

My mates bike was a grey import CBR750 - 17 years old and in good nick. He was looking to change the bike anyway but he's not a fan of the GS - shame!

Where did you put the Ring-sticker? And when are you going back?!

Sticker has gone on the pannier - might stick another elsewhere - any ideas - where did you stick yours? I'll go back sometime - not thuis year though. Baby number two due any day soon!

I put one small one on each side panel, kind of behind the BMW-badge...

Congrats on the baby! :)

What type of engine guards do you have on that yellow GS? I've never seen those before.

Glad to hear your mate's ok.. and thanks for the great report!

No I was in front. The jerk saw me go past then pulled out in front of my mate. I got half a mile up the road before I realised he wasn't there, turned around and was met by carnage. The old bloke claimed my mate was going so fast he couldn't see him:eek: He was doing 50mph tops and the guy had at least 200 yards to spot him.

The truth is the old bloke was lost and was turning around in a field entrance like a numpty and obviously couldn't hack his rubbish navigation skills and was probably watching me so closely and just decided to pull out once I had passed him. When I got to the scene I nearly leathered the old-timer but realised it wouldn't help the situation.

Made me blub for the first time in 15 years when the reality of my mates good fourtune hit me.
