After hearing a few stories of long journeys with 1200GSs breaking down - here's the flip side.
I just got back yesterday froma five day trip taking in Holland, Belgium and Germany with a mate. we did a fair number of miles and based ourselves near the Nurburgring in the Eifell mountain area. The roads around there are amazing - hairpin after hairpin - great stuff.
The bike performed a dream. The luggage was never a hinderance and buffeting was down to a minimum even with the standard screen and motorway journeys. I did three laps of the Nurburgring in the damp (drying track) while it was quiet - my first track laps ever - being fairly new to biking and the bike did me proud. I manage to equal Mr Clarkston's Jag time on my third lap so all went well.
Here's afew pics of the trip.
The view from Montreal (near Cochem)
One of the many beautiful towns on the Mosel
Looking proud
The bike done good!
1200GS supermoto style spotted in BadMunstereifel
Then we get home - take aride up the coast, over to Helmsley and some idiots decides to ruin everything and T-bones my mate!!!!
The idiots car!
Ride careful - there are stupid car drivers out there that are too old to be driving and could spoil your fun at any time,
Fortunately my mate got away with a broken wrist - it could have been a lot worse - especially if my mate was riding as fast as the driver claims - but then he also says he didn't see him
even with a view down the road of 300yds!!!
