I have an old 1992 Yamaha T80 stepthrough, look like a Honda 50. Great bike with only 4000 miles. There is rust on the bottom of the swing arm and on some of the spokes. What is the bst way to treat this with products that are available in this neck of the woods.

I have posted this before but worth a go?

"Inspired by the success of Mr Hargreaves with the treacle de-rusting process I decided to attempt a full restoration of my 1932 Spagthorpe Whippet. I decided that a total immersion approach was called for. I commandeered the family bath and purchased some tins of Fowlers Black Treacle. Unfortunately I was unable to afford sufficiant treacle to provide the neccesary 40 gallons of mixture (do you know the price of Fowlers Treacle?) so I made up the quantity with 10lbs of my wife's home-made marmalade, 3lbs of damson jam, a gallon of chicken stock, ten gallons of failed home-brew and a jar of pickled gherkins. Once the initial bubbling had subsided I immersed the Whippet complete and awaited results.
The next morning I was delighted to find that not only had every speck of rust dissappeared, but the complex compound produced by the mixture had caused the damson jam to flow into every pit and over every surface, where it had hardened to a smooth, impervious finish in a shade of purple very close to the original colour.
Thus, in one stroke the Whippet was completely restored to as-new condition, and apart from an occasional main jet blocked with a bit of oarange peel, it is running perfectly.
The residual bathful of mixture looked far too good to waste, so I put it up in 1lb jars and it has consistently won prizes at the local Women's Institute jam-making competition ever since."
