This is my first BMW. (1200 GS) Having had jap bikes before, 'problems' have been completely alien to me.
Anyway, i have been searching this forum for ages as i can remember reading about someone that wrote to BMW to ask for an extra year's warranty.
My warranty is due soon, and i have had all the 'common' problems but have suffered/am suffering from two specific worries.
1. If cruising down the motorway for around 45 mins (2 up ), come off a slip road, end up in 2nd gear, go through 2nd and 3rd changing at around 5.5k revs, the engine rattles so bad it sounds like the cam chain is going to come off. This was made very slightly better by 20/50 oil and new cam chain rubber things being replaced by my dealer. However, they cannot find anything, so in essence they have no problem to fix. (they checked oil for fragments too)
2. Same scenario... and the gear box sticks. It's getting worse. I do clutch gear changes (both up and down) - the clutch has also been checked by the dealer (road test - and they could not find anything) I really have to bang the gear level with my foot. If i rev hard (with the clutch in) it's ok, but 2nd and 3rd feel rough, whilst other gears still give a silky selection. It does not feel like a worn or 'incorrectly adjusted/lazy clutch)
Anyway, the point is that i beleive that the bike is going to go pop soon. It's done 18k miles and its warranty runs out in about 4 weeks.
Has anyone written a letter to BMW that i can use as a template, so that i can detail the 'warranty work' and request an extra years worth of warranty.
This summer, i have booked to go on three euro trips, 2 2up (about 3k miles) and 1 trip solo ( about 1800 miles).
