I spent half of last Sunday playing with a 3D jigsaw puzzle... Having recently acquired a number of nearly-new Givi Monokey boxes, I've purchased a Givi PL189 "tubular sidecase holder"
Has anyone successfully fitted one of these things???
The R/h side fitted OK, loose as instructed....
Then round to the left...
First, the longer bolt that replaces the upper footpeg support fouls the OE silencer a couple of mm before correctly tightened, though that could probably be cut shorter.
On offering up the left side rack... BIG problems...!
Even if I shorten the footrest bolt, there is NO WAY the lower arm of the rails will fit between foot rest and 'zaust as instructed.
With it in very approx position ('cause of aforementioned obstruction) there, and the connecting spacer bar in place between left and right sides (supplied) behind the number plate, the upper mount to the frame (on threads vacated by OE pannier rails) stands over a centimetre proud of the correct position!
The rails appear to be designed for a rear subframe significantly wider, and a totally different 'zaust-footrest arrangement - like the 1150 perhaps? though the packing and instructions (HA! HA!) both say it's for both R1100/1150GS, 1994-2002.
Oh... and the indicator mounting brackets supplied cannot (so the 'instructions' say) be used in conjunction with the E189 top box adapter plate I’ve previously fitted.
On ordering the system at a local dealer's I spoke directly with Givi UK who assured me the two could be used together. The supplied mounts HAVE to be used as the left hand flasher would foul left hand box IF I ever got the lot to fit!
We're off to Spain in less than a fortnight and the need to ration kit would be greatly reduced if I didn't have to re-fit the OE BMW podules....
Any ideas?
