Arrived early at Rotterdam for ferry after holls and thought I would find something to eat to pass the time.
2610, find food, yep, macdonalds just a few Ks away, go to.
After five mins of caculation?
Up comes a route of almost 300k and I will arrive around 10pm.
She/it wants me to get on the ferry, change ferries mid ocean landing further down the coast and then drive back towards Rotterdam to the MacDonalds.
Just tried to do the same on the computer and I get the same results.
Why does it not just take the road?
I did try various options, fastest, shortest and any others I could find.

Hi Kenny,

Were you any where nice on holiday and why did you use the longer haul ferry from Harwich as opposed to Newcastle or Rosyth? Just being nosey, like :D

Ronno

P.S. There are a couple of ride outs planned for 1. This Saturday (Oban) and 2. Sunday, 9th october (Borders area) :thumb

I encountered the very same problem last month, trying to find a McDonald's in the area around the Hook of Holland ferry terminal. My GPSR - a 2720 using the very latest maps - returned a similar, screwey route.

I think there must be something wrong with the POI (point of interest) database in that area. In other words, I think it is a cartography problem, not a GPSR problem. If I tried to route to anywhere else - a local hotel, a gas station, something like that - it worked just fine.

FWIW, if you select 'avoid toll roads', the GPSR will avoid ferries unless there is no other way to navigate the route. Perhaps try that next time.

Where

Hi Ronno,

Took the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, down through France to meet some friends in the Picos de Europe staying at Fuente De for a week then up to the coast and LLanes for a week.
My friends had to go home, but not me, he he he.
Went along the Pyrenees to Andorra for a few days then along the south of France taking in the Millau bridge and the Tarn gorge to the Italian lakes for another couple of days.
Headed North into Austria where I met up with some other friends who were staying in Lofer for a while.
After that we went to Rothenburg then onto Bernkastel Kues and finally to Europort and home.
5500 miles al told, rear tyre is very tired and the oil went from the top of the glass to just below half way.
Most of the oil and tyre rubber was used on a mad day from Florac in the South of France to Lake Garda in Italy.
The slow lane in Italy seems to flow at 90mph while the others are just ballistic.
Sat for what seemed like hours at 5.5 and 6k revs and being passed like I was in reverse by things with superchargers that you could here before you seen them.
Had a fine time though.
Take care , Kenny :thumb
