Gone back to a 1250

If my 1250 hadn't been due for a change i wouldnt have swapped, the 1300 is more of an evolution rather than a substantial upgrade in my opinion.
The engine in the 1250 sounds much nicer ,the 1300 makes a terrible racket along with the whine it makes but I've got used to it now.
Pillion comfort is also not as good but again....

Can I ask why the 1250 was "due a change" ? PCP time up ? Presumably if it was a PCP you could have bought it out and kept it?

I got it new in 2019 ,It was 5 years old with 21,000 miles, a bit less mileage than normal due to covid but in my mind I was due for a change.I used to change my bikes every 3 years or so as I just like new things but I took early retirement in 2020 so I have to be a little less extravagant .

Just out of interest, does anyone recognise this 2022 GSA Rallye? I bought it from Vertu in Shipley. So far I’m really liking it. Traded my 2022 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro for it.

I traded my 1300 gs for a 1250 Rt after having the 1300 for 15 months, I covered 5k miles on it mostly over NW Scotland and the islands and only had one issue with it going into limp mode on the A9,
I rode it at 40mph for 25 miles to Inverness and stopped in a lay-by to tell my mate to continue to Ullapool for the ferry and I would nip into the dealers and get them to look at it, started the thing back up and it was perfect again, forgot it was a computer. 😆
It was a good bike apart from the engine clatter and gearbox whine, but don’t miss it, the 1250’s seem to have a bit more character and just seem more BMW rather than Ktm like 1300’s

My last GS was a 2018 1200GSA; I went to Inverness BMW and took out a 1300GS for a test ride. I didn’t like it; it sounded like a rough running diesel, went well enough but just felt like a supermoto to me not a GS.

I don’t know what happened but I left the dealer with a used K1600 instead of a new GS🤷‍♂️ I never got on with the 1600 and my wife hated it. So asked dealer if I could trade back or would they buy it back only to be told; “no, we already have 4 K1600s on the floor we can’t sell why would we want another, I can give you a few numbers of dealers who might want it if you like”.

Despite having bought at least 6 bikes off them over recent years, that pissed me off.

So decided on another Indian; dealer did me a great trade in deal for the K1600 against a used Roadmaster and that finished my relationship with BMW after 20 years.

Doubt I will go back to the GS as the Himalayan I now have can pretty much do everything a GS can albeit a bit slower but at a fraction of the price.

The frame, larger forks along with sports suspension on my trophy puts it head and shoulders above my old 1200 TC.
It’s evolution……don’t look backwards……you will hit something!
The 1300 is just a bit better everywhere, worth the extra I think.

I went back to a 1250 twice - once after test riding a 13GS and another time after test riding a 13GSA. :ROFLMAO:

When the 1200 came out, people slagged it off as being awful. I’m sure in time, the 1300 will be the loved nearest and dearest.
In a few years time, if I got a cash injection, I would probably consider the 1300. But, in a few years time, if the Chinese were making shaft drive, with buckets of torque in a GS style form, I would also consider it. It is just that currently, out there on the market, there is no bike, ie, large GS style with shaft drive, and buckets of torque, except maybe the Triumph, that would get me interested, and I have looked. Now if Voge did a 1200, specked as above at half the beemer price, I would go look at one.

I’ve had several GSAs, 1150, 1200, 1250, a year or so off on a 1250R and now on a 1300GSA.

I remember the pre esa 1200 being very very good. I’m only a 1000 miles in to the 13 so still early to give a proper judgement, but so far so good.

The amount of tech on it does concern me slightly as I’m planning to keep this one a lot longer than usual.

There's many that love to see the top dog fall and overlook the underdogs short comings. A lot of this going on with the Chinese / Indian stuff.

Comparing a Himmy to a GS in any capacity is crazy.

It's like me arguing my Casio is better than an Audemars.

Approached a bm dealer today about trading in my 650 miler 1250, gave him the spec and they offered me more than I actually wanted, I said I’d sleep on it, later on they called me twice and said if I don’t want to trade they would buy it off me, I never asked what the cash deal would be, I said I’ll think about it.
650 miles? That’s just a weekend of riding!
