Just wondering what people think of the new GS watercooled compared to the previous model.
Lots of negatives get aired but would like to know what people like about the new bike.

Awesome..........................for a GS:D

New WC GSA will have more 'presence' though:augie

I agree there is a lot of negativity on here and I was concerned before picking up my bike in September, but I have to say after nearly 3000 miles its the best BMW I've owned and I've had all the GS variants over the years, also I have had no issues with the bike whatsoever.
Don't forget people only complain when things go wrong and there's a lot on this forum bad mouthing the bike that don't even own one !

Based on the fully equipped one (incl semi active suspension etc) I had last year for Euro touring, it is a wonderful piece of kit and represents the best adventure styled bike available, period. The engine provides a stunning improved performance, the semi active suspension will flatter your riding through the mountain passes, stability under heavy braking from speed is awesome, wind protection is excellent, fuel consumption can be up to 250 miles plus range from the tank, oil consumption is as nil as it gets, it's utterly reliable and with cruise control on you can relax and peel off those autobahn kilometers in confidence. In fact, perfect for the 2014 Garmisch tour/bash with the World of BMW guys and gals.

I have the basic Enduro version, no electronic suspension etc.

I would suggest that so far it has proven to be a big improvement in almost every sense over the previous model and i have put pretty serious miles on previous model both standard and GSA variants.

Screen is more effective than even the GSA, seat is a major improvement, my gearbox is vastly improved although others on this site seem to be having genuine issues with theirs, handling and suspension are much sharper and the motor is simply streets ahead in terms of performance, even the (non LED) headlight seems to be an improvement although this would hardly be difficult to achieve!

The only downside I have experienced is that the heated grips do not get as warm as previous ones but I believe a software fix is on the way for this.

"Bad mouthing" ? I will get my third new GS LC in 3 weeks time. I will stick with this model because I LIKE IT ! But the fact is that there are some quality issues. Far as I can see some people are happy to bend over and take the corporate cock and the bull . Some are not , probably that's why a raft of changes on the 2014 model and more to come to solve the clutch issue.
I agree there are some who just talk a lot of crap and they don't even have this model , but this is the internet . Sad , fat fucks with no life and small cocks who hide behind a keyboard:rob:D

Despite me being one of the unfortunate owners of the new wc to have, and still have, experienced gearbox/clutch problems I would say it is without a shadow of a doubt the finest BMW I have ever owned.

I would say that in 70% of the bike is better than my previous twin cam,10% is around the same, and 20% is not as good.

Better..... Engine...Smooth and as quick as I would ever want or need these days. The modes may seem a little
quirky and gimmicky at first but once you can use them as second nature they are invaluable.
Has not used one drop of oil

Brakes....Simply the best I've ever come across on a motorcycle.

Esa...amazing piece of kit. The bike handles really well and under normal circumstances and goes about
it's business in a very proficient manner, start to push it a bit and it doesn't bat an eyelid.

I'm not sure what the steering damper is about on the 14 bike but in my opinion it doesn't need one.

Finish...Despite what many said shortly after the bike was released I believe the finish is slightly improved.

Not as good....Indicators,I bloody hate the new ones.
Riding slowly, i.e. in traffic around town, the bike does not like being under 1800rpm and can become very snatchy at low speed, necessitating riding the clutch a lot to prevent stalling.

Pillion reports that whilst the rear seat is ok and the bike feels very smooth she gets blown about quite
vigorously at anything above 80mph.
Gearbox, but hopefully bthat will be fixed.

The same....everything not mentioned above.

The bike always puts me in mind of an 18st gymnast...on paper it shouldn't really be as capable and nimble as it is and you can load it to the ginnels and it remains almost just as nimble....but it is.

I would just like to add.

That, if you're considering a new gsa, unless you are a very very big bloke or you really do need to travel 300mls before stopping do not purchase until you have tried the standard gs.

It is one awesome piece of kit :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

It simply is the best GS so far, almost 13,000 miles since last March and wouldn't swap it for any other bike, there is no other bike that comes close - is that good enough? :D I'd have another at the drop of a hat :)

P.S mine is the most basic version with heated grips - none of that traction control, modes and auto suspension guff :D

I hate mine. It's rubbish, I tell you.:rob

OK, not really, it's a fantastic motorcycle, and there's nothing out there that comes close, IMHO.:JB

+1 even with the clutch/gearbox problems

It makes me smile when I ride it and that's what it's all about!!

I must admit I am confused about the 'clutch/gearbox problems' - yes there is some clutch drag and it seems to offend some more than others, would be nice if it wasn't there but one adapts and it becomes a non-problem very quickly. I have yet to read a report by someone who does NOT have the 'problem' ride a bike that does have the 'problem'. The only objective comments that I have heard are those from some French journos who put the issue down to the rider - I tend to agree but am open to riding a bad bike to make up my own mind.

Best bike I have ever owned and I have had two now because of the non-existent clutch issues. Despite me telling BMW that it must be my riding style 'cos some French jorno said so, they insist on replacing bikes they can not fix and have even now admitted there is a fundamental design issue and they will be redesigning the clutch to fix it. :-)

Its a cracker, i pick mine up next month and I've had some long test rides. So spritely compared to my twin cam gsa. It felt a bit like going from a 1.8 non turbo to a 2.0 turbo car! Economy appears better to going off the trip computer about 5mpg. Screen is great too i am 6'2".

A very good bike , there have been gearbox issues no denying that and i did experience graunching changes on one of the bikes i tried (but virtually nil on the other) , but even that would not/did not put me off.

More smiles per miles.

from a sports bike nuts point of view picked mine up last september then sold my s1000rr october it is the completes do it all bike i can take the missis on the back i can ride with my mates who have fireblades r1s it does it all well impressed

As many others have said - superb!

This is my third 1200GS (06, 09 and now 2013) and this one is in a different league. It is better in pretty much every single department, including the indicators.

The exceptions are the heated grips, which are barely adequate really and the low speed engine performance at 30 mph in 3rd gear which for me is a little disappointing; I can see why the GSA has a heavier flywheel to address this.

But with 6000 miles under its wheels this is undoubtedly the best bike I have owned, I just love it :-)

For me its simply the best bike ive ever owned, love it so much Im selling it. As I have now ordered the GSA which I pick up the end of April which will no doubt be just as good.

agree , best bike which I have ever owned so far.

and this is after a 3 week wait for a front brake master pump which laid up my bike in the dealership.

there is (as is often mentioned about the water gs) not One thing that you can point to that she excels at , but the total package is undeniably good.

the best thing (for me) is being able to do forest trails off road and blasting b-roads all in one ride.

Me too , best bike I have owed even with its issues , reminds me of the wife , fantastic ride but at a cost lol . Seriously the new gs is by far the best bike out there and will be for the foreseeable future. I have owned the multisrada , not even close , borrowed a new ktm , awful ....... Well done BM for keeping and improving a great product .

Great reply :)
