Got mine on Wednesday - what do I make first.................

Could you not make it full length that tucks into the front spoiler ! so it covers the header pipes that go into cat, would look like a full belly pan once it's painted black .

Fekk me mate, its been hard enough to get this far - not sure if that would work but looking at the time taken to get it this far then give me several weeks (coz Nuts won`t :D) and I may have something - but I doubt it because it does need support at the leading edge. Only secured (albeit on Mans Brackets) at two places means that leading edge, for my liking, is too `out on a limb` - any ideas on the blind hole lads?

Also, I am concerned about total coverage and heat dissipation..............

Whoops here s a photo of what I mean

My guess it is a jig locating hole for the support jig during engine build

Over engineered safety - as I'm only 100% sure that the two thick stainless steel supporting brackets are strong enough and I want to be 200% sure I've designed this front holding bracket (also out of 2mm thick ss) so that the safety of the belly pan is over engineered. It requires the tapping of a convenient hole but well worth it

Not sure I want to start tapping holes to fit this, Mark.:rob

Mmmm, I don`t know if powder coat will simply blister.??????

Ask the fella that does the coating for you what powder he uses, I have a lot of powder coating done and some powder will withstand 800*f but typical everyday stuff used is roughly 400-550*f .

Tbh I'd recon you would be fine to powder the cover .

You don't have to fella but for those who do it can easily be done (or I will do it for anybody who wishes to come to me, free)

When you see how it is held on with the over engineered brackets and fasteners you will see it isn`t going anywhere fella - the front bracket is me just being my normal `kick the arse` out of it philosophy. Flimsy it is not.

I`ll send you a working prototype (or mine) if you want, for free, and you can see fella - you`l then see mate!

Yes possibly but I`ve purchased some high temp adhesive `matting` which I will cut to shape and see what happens.

Ok, good to know.:thumb

I'm happy to wait for the final product, and don't mind paying!:D

IIRC, the one on my R was powdercoated, and that was fine. It was also very close to the cat. As Dave said above, a higher temperature tolerance powdercoat should be fine. But I'll let you test it properly!:aidan

The high temp matting works on plastic fairings on sports bikes so should be fine on metal

It will last 5 mins painted with a rattle can before it looks rough with stone chips .

Yes you could be right but, characteristically, I`m not going to look to save money and risk it. I`d rather be sure of the powder coating durability AND have some HT matting at the places where its very close to the cat.

Hi Mark

For me a Nav-V locking device would be great it gets annoying having to remove the unit each time I park, if you could make a unit that takes the BMW lock barrel that would be great.

Terry

And for the RTLC...loads of people would buy them....def. me.

I've finished the belly pan now - took till Rev I to get it right. I know I'd say this but 'tis a fing of beauty. Here's one of the supporting brackets (which alone does it for me) showing the 2mm thick stainless steel and the fastening system (please note Nuts baby) which isn't simple panel pins/fasteners (like most pans and fairing fixtures I'm sure you know the type) rather these are mechanically inserted M5 'rivnuts' which then hold the panels to it by 3 M5 SS fasteners. The fit IMHO is lovely (when put together properly). Along with the front fastening bracket this fit is far from cheap nor is it far from flimsy but sadly won't be cheap as I've gone with the idea of 'fekk the cost, I'm making it as sturdy as possible'. Now gotta price it up, I apologise in advance if it's more expensive than anything else on the market (but I don't think anyone has yet solved the problem of fitting one with a stand - which mine is) but guys it wasn't ever meant to be cheap! So, it's off for powder coating and then I will have the final retail item!

Ha - too much enthusiasm and not enough focus on what I was writing. What I meant to say was that it is `far from flimsy`! And that mine is able to fit on the bike with the main stand fitted and operated in both up and down positions.

My apologies, it went on lovely this morning and I (very sadly) got very excited (yeah I know, I need to get out more.......)

Its at the powder coaters and should be back later this week for final images.

Just gotta come up with a sensible price which ain`t gonna be easy as I haven`t put any thought whatsoever to economies of construction...................
