GPS Advice please...

I normally run the BMW Navigator III GPS and can't fault it.

BUT I could do with a cheap back up, preferably Garmin... thinking of the Quest! In the 'old days' I had the maps of Europe on one Compact Flash card, and the World Map on another. Get to the borders and swop 'em.... no probs. Now with internal memory this can't be done, so need a small unit to hold the world map. Impending trip through Russia again maybe, then next year Nord Kapp to South Cape

The smaller back up unit will also come in handy for finding my way back to the hotel in all places foreign

As far as I can see the World Map is 178 MB...

What would be my best option? Quest? Zumo?

Where's the best place to get it from?

Quest's are cheap

IIRC the European Mk 1 versions have 235 mb of memory, so you could fit the whole of the world on it. Or, just the World Map tiles for the areas out of CN Europe, and some of the CN EU for the borders :thumb2

The Quest screen can be a bit small if your eyesights a bit the worse for wear.

Well I’d go for a 60Cx or 60Csx from ebay America

The Quest I is ok, but has limited space for mapping, the 60x range takes the MicrSD card and 2gig costs next to nothing and it has the Sirf StarIII processor. It doesen't talk, but can be set to beep when a turn is coming up.

You can download segment of worldmap with Metroguide (aided by the Metrowizz program) to the 60x and then you will have routable mapping and a European base map (you do need it for when you zoom out)

Display size is the same as the Quest

what he said. my 60CSx has a 4Gb card with all CN euro, all uk topo + quite a bit of uk bluechart on it to take it up to about 3Gb

actually, there's a euro basemap on the web that i use instead of the installed USA basemap. that's only about 7.5Mb, you can use it instead of Worldmap.
