I Need some help,

i have the garmin GPS 60CS, its good,

But,

What do i do with the Mapsource, the mapsource software is just a basic map of the world, what good is that? im sure im missing somthing here.

Also, i think ive got the europe in detail and world in basic???
But im having probs with the ireland map, when i pan over it starts to draw the map and in detail, then stops, it then restarts and doesent draw any detail at all on most of the island, only a bit on the east side, dublin is complete.

can somone please educate me in the use of my GPS.

Cheers

Nige, I might be around a day or so in November. I could show you how it works.
Ireland is pretty crap in Mapsource.

There is Version 5 and 6 for europe and then there is world map. Sounds like you have world map if you can see outside of Europe. I too have it and its better in ireland than Version 6 of city Navigator, outside of dublin at least.

On the toolbar of Mapsource there is a pull down menu that allows you to swap between diifferent map versions. Use it and let us know which ones you have.

European City Navigator 5
European City Navigator 6
No Map
World Map

Are my choices, and you?

The MapSource product that comes standard with the GPSmap 60 is 'Trip and Waypoint Manager'.
It really is not a mapping product at all, just a general worldwide map with basic coastlines and main highways that you can view on the PC and overlay waypoints, routes and tracklogs onto.
You cannot transfer any maps to the GPS with T&WM

For detailed street level mapping you need City Select Europe (or City Navigator or MetroGuide) which costs extra.

rich,
it says trip and waypoint v 2,

my GPS is very detailed in europe, i can put the curser over any road and it tells me the name.
it shows all roads, rivers and points out places of interest, eg police, petrol and trainstations.
the mapsourse to me seems a waste of time!!??
i dunno:confused:

i need somone to have a look at it, to tell me what it is i have.

Nige,

Mapsource is a bit like windows. It allows you to look at the map products that you have.

The advantage to you of buying Cityselect 6 or City Navigator 6 is that they will allow you to use the GPS for turn by turn navigation.

I'll be in Dunmow next week for at least a day with my laptop and my 60C. If you want call in and I'll show you how it works. You can then make up your mind if you want to buy the extra software.

Nige

Otherwise, I'm around all weekend if you want to pop down to Loughton.

Also if you have a lap top we could possibly load up my memory map o/s maps. ;)

Dave

Dave,

that would be great, im off to the US monday, so ill try to meet up with you this weekend, i do appreciate your help, thanks,

what size is the file for the maps, will it fit in a 256mb removable drive

nooooooo

I'm being invaded.

The memory map software is on about 6 cd's and only covers southern UK

So will it fit on 256 mega blobs............. erm no.

I will try (just out of interest and to make a personal backup copy) to see if it will let me copy the disks.
