Gran Canaria

Park, Arsey put gps files on here for a few good routes. I was there this Jan with 4 pals and returning 06/02 on my own for more fun. I have a Desert Sled booked this time.

I drove a car over the mountains 30 years ago north to south. Beautiful views and great roads. It was Xmas day and I was so close to running out of fuel. Found some in a little village. Asked in a bar and finally found some from a guy who had a fuel pump in a shed. 😳

Doing the same trip as last year with Canary Motorcycle Tours as it was so good and such good value last time .
We’re going 24-31 January.

These are the routes we did last time

We hired an open top jeep for the day 40 odd years ago, we left the wife’s on the beach, whilst we had a fantastic day in the mountains. I thought at the time that it would be even better on 2 wheels.
Enjoy yourselves.

We hired from PIC Y POC ,my son used in 2023 and commented how professional outfit. They where very good.I am correct in thinking their not interested in the shorts /flip flops moto users?

We made the routes ourselves very very easy to navigate around .

The GC 605 and GC 210 Road being our favourite roads.

The towns on the coast are a bit touristy but good selection of food and beers from all around the world.

Soon as you move to the interior of the island 85% most of tourist melt away .

Give it go DIY tour or more structured organised outfit .It’s a fantastic way of extending your riding activities for very reasonable cost?

We are off to Heraklion /Crete later in 2025 ,my son hired a Himy 450 few weeks ago and that looks good there also.
He seems to be my moto tour scout at the moment?🙈

Hi, How was the hire with Pic e Poc? I looked at the tour but will have Missus with me so don't want to be too whizzy or the trip being just about the the riding. Was thinking of going for about 5 days and hiring bike for 3 days assuming this is sufficient to see (and enjoy) most of the Island. Cheers :beerjug: John B

Pic Y poc where very good ,booked 6 months before .Took all my gear with exception of a crash hat .
I had a MT07:tracer with 2000miles on .
,top box for bits and bobs. They have some riding gear to loan.
We rode 4 consecutive days and viewed a good chunk of the island .We used Garmin XT but bikes set up with phone holder and usb power.
The island is brilliant for winter adventure,l am not that taken with organised tours and I prefer DIY adventures We are off to Crete next October for a similar jaunt.
Are favourites Road GC605 GC210 and favourite cafe stop was in bar cassa melo in Ayacata.IMG_0819.jpegIMG_0821.jpeg

Hi Chap, thanks for the info, I'll get in touch with them when we suss out suitable dates. Like you I'm not so keen on organised tours, I have found many a place by getting a bit lost and people generally are so helpful and mostly friendly. Enjoy Crete, there are some fabulous places to experience (we met a whole village having a feast and they insisted we join them!) Cheers :beerjug: John B

I got the impression that Pic YPoc are not interested the typical holiday flip flops shorts customer .
They were very professional we paid 80 Euro deposit and the rest on picking the bike up. 500 Euro (refund within hrs of bike return )bail bond held on the credit card until you return unscathed (you and bike).
My bike was really well prepared as we picked up.
The island I would to say you probably cannot get lost just head for the middle high point.
There good roads everywhere nice and quiet in December.Odd hire car and cyclists, easy to navigate round on MT07 .
I was really impressed with standard of the local drivers most always indicated and courteous.
Only tip advised by the company on roundabout even if exit 3rd exit (all the round) use the outer of the lanes?
Strange but that’s what local taxis seem to do so we suppressed natural urge and ride like a local.Outside lane .
Have a go in the off-season (uk that is) what’s not to like.👍

Going again on Friday with Wapping and Stevie4scoops. Can’t wait !

Not been to Gran Canaria , so we are heading down a week tomorrow ( Tuesday ) for a wee chill out hol for a week , then an internal flight to Tenerife North airport and over to Puerto De La Cruz , for a couple of further weeks .
Need a wee break .

I must admit Gran Canaria is one of the last places I’d go for a beach holiday . Naff concrete resorts huddled around a crap beach teaming with brits in buggies.

But venture inland and it’s a different world , with mountain passes, rain forests and canyons , dotted with sleepy villages for coffee or lunch .
