Greek islands and an old XT600

Love it Alastair...thanks.
I've now bitten the bullet and will be selling my bike in the next day or so, so relying on other people's trips from now on...pisser!
Why ? I thought you were back on the bike Gerard ?

Sorry to hear that. We suggested doing a couple of one night away trips to see if you enjoyed it? Portsoy, Lochinver, Iraklia, wherever

How about another trip to Moffat. Gerrard couldn't make it last week because he'd gone fishin.
Just a suggestion.

Looking forward to seeing your next report and photos from your trip.👍

No confidence mostly....if I can't do what I used to be able to do, I'd rather not try. No sense in letting a decent bike moulder away, so it will need to go. I used to be a good rider, but old age doesn't come alone! Sad but fact of life...

Good idea Stu I would be up for it depending on dates.

That's a shame.

Goat stew last night, along with half a kilo of cold red wine. Perfect dinner.
Today was all about the bike and riding round the island, that has been done, box ticked. I meandered about, stopped in lots of spots, even took a few photos.
The harbour was very peaceful, as was everywhere else, it’s a great time to travel round the islands, few folk, low prices but enough things open to keep you fed, watered and bedded.
There is a road down to the small bay that I went to, hard to imagine a more peaceful spot.
And the bike outside the post office/ferry ticket shop/general store/beer seller/gossip centre/island hen man. Great spot.
Big decision later, goat or squid? Both local to the island, both excellent. That’s a quandary I can live with.

I’m wondering what the actual volume is of a half kilo of red wine? I know the metric system is quite linear and based on the density of water…….so 0.5kg of water is exactly 500ml. Not sure about cold red(??) wine though?! 🤔

Yes, they ignore the SG and it’s half a litre. It’s obviously a jug, not bottle and as they do in Russia it’s out the fridge. Nice as well.

You could get the train to Athens via Italy and a ferry then ferry to some islands. That could be a good trip

Like Micky I moved sideways from a big, heavy and expensive bike to a 125cc Honda. The freedom and fun is a revelation. In fact this trip involving ferries and small islands sounds perfect small bike territory for a pensioner such as me

Sorry to hear that Gerard, so no postie bike for you then?

Have both, spoil yourself. Surf and turf with that combination sounds brilliant, and of course a kilo of wine.:101

A 125 would be perfect for this trip

insanely jealous :D

enjoy

always wanted to ride from croatia to thessiloniki or maybe do the presidential guard

xt cos off road god or just to plod about?

Much as I admire Mickys adventures, the thought of wobbling along on a wee bike in today's traffic doesn't excite me a bit! I'll take the Volvo!
So I'll quit while I'm ahead!
Sure about this Gerry ?
There are other much lighter machines around now that are in no way a problem in traffic
This V Strom 800 I have just bought as a down size from my big old GSA , is MUCH easier to handle ,with VERY GOOD handling and stability ( hands off the bars stable at 70 ) is very comfortable just out the box ,, and with a really strong torquey motor which is very linear and goes like the proverbial off a shovel when you open the taps .
