Grip puppies query?

Doing a very good impression of a criticism....

Excellent, insightful post - thanks.

I was merely pointing out that for me, they weren’t all they were cracked up to be. I was simply trying to offer balance.

If I was trying to be critical, I might have said - “these are massively overpriced tubes of sponge that are frankly, fucking useless, offering zero reduction in vibration, worse grip levels and they make you look like Prince Charles with his massive parsnip fingers. Anyone who buys them is an utter clown and ideal wanking material for the marketing genius that managed to convince the world that these 10p sponge sections are a worthwhile buy. Whatever you do, don’t purchase them, especially if you have the misfortune to live in a silicone injected hellhole like Essex and enjoy making beyond worthless contributions on motorcycling forums.”

But that would have lacked any balance or nuance and simply isn’t true. ;)

I have used Grip Puppies on my last two BMWs (GSA and K1600) as I, like the OP find the grips too small, not due to handlebar vibrations. I have not found that they affect the heated grips in any significant or noticeable way.

And anyone from Sheffield describing anywhere else as a "hellhole" is beyond irony.

Grip puppies here too. I agree the standard diameter is too small for anything other than short journeys.

Heated grips work fine, just take a bit longer to warm up.

I use an airline to get mine on - takes approximately a second!
I don’t have an airline so it’ll be hot water and a bit of fairy liquid for me ;)

I've used them on my last two boxers as I find the standard grips too thin. Wouldn't be without them now. They do offer some slight cushioning, and a more comfortable grip. I have arthritic hands and riding without them becomes, quite literally, a pain after a few hours in the saddle. However overpriced these things are, you pays your money and makes your choice. Ignore critics. If they work for you, they work for you.

What is the "airline" method please ?

Ditto, except WD40 to get mine on.

First ride with them today, I’m not sure about them. It made things feel a bit ‘vague’ and they’re probably too thick now :blast :ROFLMAO:

I use the airline for all grip duties.. pop the nozzle inside the grip and block the handlebar end off with your other hand. Use limited pressure on the nozzle to open up the grip la little where it will just slide on.

I personally would not put any lubricant in there, but try petrol in moderation as that will help it slide for a moment then evaporate..

As a bonus, you may find that you will be able to fine tune your throttle input by having a wider grip.

Surely WOT is the only position to have ? :hide

I use grip puppies for no other reason than to increase the diameter of my grips, as I have longer than usual fingers, meaning I had a loose grip on the bars most of the time and eventually an ache from discomfort this has caused. Yes, the heat from the grips doesn’t come through as quickly nor as hot, but then again I do not ride in the winter anymore.

With a bigger diameter grip with the Grip Puppies, a little movement with the throttle translates to an even smaller movement at the original OEM diameter grip, so it gives you the ability to add or decrease smaller increments in the throttle movement, all helped by fly by wire technology.

Indeed. Love mine. They don't make my bike look a million bucks but they sure make me comfy.

One of the reasons I initially tried Grip Puppies many moons ago as the electronic throttle control on a 1st gen Tiger Explorer I had back in around 2013 was quite sensitive and even involuntary movements of the hand, over bumps for example, was enough to cause a (unwanted) throttle response. Happy enough with them as to fit a set on the GS when it arrived.

Just wanted to thank you.. The airline method worked a treat. (y) (y)

I’ve used grip puppies for years for several reasons:

I have big hands with fingers like pigs tits and I hate skinny grips.

My first GS heated grip rubbers wore away through use, grip puppies are way cheaper to replace.

I like the soft feel and reduced vibration.

I fit mine using a squirt of cheap women’s hair lacquer from Aldi. Grips slide on easily and then the solvent evaporates, setting them in place firmly. Use a scalpel blade to carefully slice grip puppies off when replacing.
