Grip Puppies / Star Bolt

I have purchased a set of grip puppies for my 2017 GS.

Being a mechanical biff and all work normally going to the BMW dealer to complete / install - with the grip puppies only being a couple of bits of foam I decide to install myself.

I fall at the first hurdle - rather than an Allen key at the bar ends it is a star thing... what tool do I need and where do I get one from? Cheers.

The “star” thing like a hex key is called a torx fitting….. bits available from Halfords (or any good tool sellers)
Doubt they put any torx keys in the toolkit nowadays…… unlike the old airheads toolkits which were wonderful compared to what they provide now

Thanks guys, very much appreciated! I will look for the T50 Torx tomorrow, although in honesty it will probably be cheaper and easier just getting the dealer to put them on.

It won't. They'll charge you 30 minutes to an hour for what's a 10 minute job. Vs a couple of quid for a T50 bit.

Rub a some water/washing up liquid mix inside them and on the regular grips when you try to put them on. Twist and push. Super easy. Leave overnight to dry out before you go out riding. Or you can use a garage air gun and kind of blow them on.

Thanks Guys, decided to MTFU and bought a T50 from Halford for £6. I have an air compressor and they went on with ease.

Buying a set of torx sockets will never go wrong if you’ve got a BMW.

I also bought a cheap set of the smaller sizes in screwdriver form which I needed to take the switchgear off my bars.
