GS ABS Brakes Maintenance

Hello
I thought I would change the fluid on my 08 bike, how hard could it be??? I have changed the fluid on my linked brakes several times with no problems. I checked the Haynes book of words and it says go to your dealer!!!!!!

Why should it be so hard to bleed ABS brakes?

It's not that hard - just like a car or any other bike I have done. A second pair of hands is always a help. Previous years were a bit more complicated with the servo. Jim even has a solution for those years as well.

His DVD is a very good resource as well and good value for the money.

Did mine (2004 model) a couple of years ago, not too difficult, but you need to strip the tank of to get at the servo's, and from memory I think there's something like 6 bleed screws to bleed on the servo units (control system) and then 3 on the calipers. You need to know the sequence which I cant remember, and also there is a bottle that screws to the top of the servos to enlarge the reservoirs, I managed without, but you need to watch the levels closely in the servos

I didn't think there were servo's on 2008 bikes?

No servos on 2008 models.

Bleed like normal brakes Stu. You will need to change the sponge in the reservoir as this degrades over time

After typing the reply and reading it back before posting I was wondering if there was or wasn't but could\nt be arsed to check when they were done away with, but there you go. Just as a matter of interest when was the last year servo's were used

I thought 2006 models. My RT is an 07 plate and I think it was the first model year of the non servo models

Cheers. My bike doesn't have a servo, just ABS.
