As mentioned in my intro post I've paid a deposit and ordered a GSW.

Turns out mine will be built in August and I was advised by the dealer it will be the "2014" version.
However, I've just received a copy of the sales order and it's quoting the model number "...OA01".

I've seen this number quoted in a few places (well before the 2014 changes were announced) so I was expecting something like OA02 to reflect the different versions.

I've had a look around the interweb thinging for info on previous GS model numbering systems to see if their numbers changed when upgrades were added, but can't find anything.
Can anybody comment on the model numbers or direct me to website?

just trying to make sure the dealer isn't trying to pull a swifty.

cheers

I've not heard of the OA01 reference, but the WC GS is also known as the K50

Absolute base model code, that's all

The factory use model codes to determine the specification of a bike in build, 0B01 simply means the absolute starting point for a new model (K50) GS. Each market (UK, USA, ADR) have their own variant codes enabling the factory to build a GS with a predetermined collection of options and requirements (MPH Speedo etc), no prizes for knowing what a ZTTE might be.

Those with a new GS might check their reg docs and the model code 0B01 forms part of the VIN from about the 4th or 5th digit.

Week 34 production ought to be 2014 MY.

Do you think that your new model have a steering damper?

All 2014 bikes will be fitted with damper inline with the New RT.

Yeah, the dealer check it and has advised that mine will be a MY2014 & have the damper. As I said, I was expecting the model number to be a bit different to reflect the extra bits and changes to the packages etc.

Thanks for that..

so I'm guessing the 0B01 = a British?
and 0A01 = Aust

Wouldn't it then be logical for the next version/variant of the first model to have something like "0B02".

also, what does "TE" stand for - I've seen it mentioned here a few times but the penny hasn't dropped yet

cheers

I wonder whether it will be possible to retro fit the damper to 2013 bikes for those riders who insist on riding everywhere with their hands off the bars?

I'm sure it will be, but will it be free, or will BMW charge us for it? I think we know the answer to that!:blast

It should be added to all years foc, there both the same bikes same price ! So why add better spec and make the 1st gen a not so good used buy !

There also putting the new shaft in all the 2014 bikes .

I'm working off my memory which isn't brilliant at the best of times, so it may be 0B01 is an F700 or F800 GS, or something and as we really don't use this reference codes I can't remember each and every one of them.

ZTTE is a UK Touring Edition (TE) which has all bar the alarm and wire rims as standard.

The change between MY doesn't get a new model code as any change in base spec, like the steering damper, riding modes are simply enhancements to the original and not a completely new model.

I have been told that the steering damper will be available as a retro fit but the customer will have to pay for it.

I don't mind too much as I road tested the LC 3 times and was happy to do the deal with the bike the way it was.

However, I will definitely be getting the damper kit as I think that it will be a worthwhile improvement to the steering, particularly at high speed when accelerating hard on a bumpy surface, as the bars can feel very 'alive' sometimes! :roll

Just hope that it's not a leg lift to afford it!

Ah, but I like the spritliness (is that a word?:D) of the bike:thumb:beerjug::JB

Whether a steering damper improves anything is to be answered. If it does, you can bet that it will affect turn in speed by the same amount.

Thanks everyone, for the comments so far

Ding- where did you hear about the shafts?

From the horses mouth as mine is sitting there in bits awaiting the new shaft and was told it will be fitted in all the nxt build (2014 mod)
