GS v Multistrada 2016

Happy new bike when it comes , think you've made a decent choice , quite possibly my next bike too....As for the the old GS might not be able to keep up with the MS only on the long straights........you are fucking dreaming , might catch it up when it breaks down mind , but that really is an outrageous statement

"for me just lacked something - probably character."

+1 on that. I rode an XR for a morning....agree it's a blast, and fast, but then what?

I rode past a guy on a Lambretta trying to push 50 earlier. I hate them. But I expect the guy dreams about it every night. If I took one for a test ride I know I would just hate it more. If he took a test ride on a GS I expect he would hate his mod rocket too :JB So there's the science....you chose a GS, you'll be happier now and stay alive a lot longer than the man with 8" wheels. But will the GS have more character than a Lamby? Maybe, maybe not. There's a thread right there.

When you get your new toy....straight to Hiltop with you!

I've read this name on other posts 'Hiltop'. Just googled it..ok looks like remapping. Is it really worth it for an adventure bike?

Sod's law...lashed it down...new bike

Picked the GS up Thursday. I thought I might get away with a dry run, but oh no. Lashed it down. The sum result being I have just spent 5 hours putting a showroom shine on her again and now I'm waiting for an Avent extender and mudsling. Lesson learned :comfort

Fuck yeah! Get the full Akra fitted first though, for the real benefit.:thumb

Remap, yes. I've done two LC engines, RT and GSA, both utterly transformed. Best cash you'll spend on the bike for sure. Annoying you have to do it in the first place though, they should come like it from the factory!

The roll-on power after is tremendous compared to stock mapping. Don't think just do it. And send me some beer for the idea :jager

Interesting. Does it affect warranty in any way + how much are we talking as you need to add that to new akra headers and pipe?

Maybe ring Hiltop and ask for pricing. Circa £375 I think (18 months ago). Mention my name and he'll double it :blast

As far as I can remember it's a learning map. Still uses the sensors, so you can add Akra later...that's what I did. Ask to be sure though.

As for needing a 'full' Akra system, unless you want a very loud bike you only need the end can. I fitted the front pipes but took them back off again and sold them. Don't get me wrong, it's a great sound, but I found it too loud for the times when Mrs.A was on the back. Noise = fatigue on a long ride for her, me too probably. If you want a middle ground then fit the end can and remove the baffles...easy job and plenty loud enough then.

Just to say too, I've no shares in Hiltop, so the recommendation is 'real' not made up. :thumbs

Thanks Chris. There are a few YouTube videos out there with stock v Akro pipe sound. Yeah, not sure Mrs T would appreciate the ear bashing either given the plan for multi-day adventures.:clap

And finally...

Just for posterity, still in the running in phase, and I know I made the right decision - just gorgeous.

That looks stunning. Have you got any mods planned?

The basics first. Just added the avant extender, pot protectors and waiting for mudsling to arrive. I have a whole load of new bike gear to buy. I quite like the Richa jackets, but need trousers & boots too. Then there is the intercom - I do like my music 😊.

One question...I notice a shed load of brake dust compared to my Fazer. Normal?

Yep, it's all bedding in still.:thumb

A tinted screen would finish the look.:beerjug:

Re brake dust, thanks for advice. :thumb You might just be right about the screen. Nice big Welsh coast, Snowdonia journey tomorrow to eat some miles before 1st service. Happy days. :bounce1
