GS1200 Adventure has arrived in UK

Like a kid wanting the sweetie shop to open I've eagerly awaited the arrival of the new GSA LC.
Pocket money has been saved and ready to be spent, subject to the usual "Give BMW a couple of years to sort the problems out that the customer beta testing finds"
But having seen the new toy in flesh all my expectations have been dashed- I'm really disappointed with how it's turned out.

It looks like the design team ran out of money as they worked backwards... bit like Ford did with the Scorpio in the late 80's.
Same poor switch gear that's been appearing recently, I've seen builders put up better scaffolding than the crash-bars, bad choice of colours, Flimsy screen.
For me it doesn't feel right or appear to have the same presence the previous model has.

So we'll see if it grows on me in the next 2 years if not the pocket money goes on either an Explorer XC or a KTM - But make your own mind up.... over £15k before farkles it has the potential to be an expensive mistake

Why not look at the normal GS then? Unless you need the bigger tank, the KTM and Triumph just have normal tanks, so you're not comparing like for like if you're comparing them against the GSA.:blagblah

dodgy front end handling & lack of engine braking come to mind
This kid has been watching whats been going on in the sweetie shop this year :)

Why is the headlight protector for off road use only?

I think the white colour looks the best, as a short arse i was very surprised i could tip toe, on the old model I had no chance. I recon fitting my low seats would make it prefect for me.

I'm very tempted !

I've been waiting to see this and I had covinced myself that next year was the year I would upgrade, so went the NEC and was n't disappointed … but my head was definitely turned by the 2014 RT … now I have a dilemma

What Steptoe would definitely refer to as: A first world problem.

Well....... I like it but wont be signing on the dotted line until after a test ride.

The only two things I don't like is the cartoon font of the R1200 graphics, I'm sure Steve Humvee will be able to offer a better looking replacement. Then there's the stupidly long center stand foot that is in the way of your left heel when riding, WTF were the BMW designers thinking putting it there :blast it's the same on the standard 1200 too.

I went to the bike show yesterday to have a look at the GSA.
I really fancied one and very nearly put my deposit down sight unseen.
Now I think I'm going to keep my 800 adventure. I might look again next year but for now its a no from me.

Went to the NEC today and the GSA looks better than in the pictures and the seat is a big improvement on the old model

I didn't bother with the bike show as perching on top of it for 30 seconds is neither use nor ornament to me

I'll wait till they land in dealers and have a full day on one to see how it compares to my current GSA, it will need to be significantly better to get me to part with £6k to change

I did the same thing and went to the show last Saturday. I'd already put a deposit down several months ago but I'm having second thoughts now. For me, there are too many unanswered questions to order one without first having a decent, longish test ride. Did anyone else think that the screen felt quite flimsy? I could grab it and move it around considerably - I don't know what it would be like with with the wind pressure ... There is no enduro gearbox option now. They claim the heavier flywheel makes up for this but of course you couldn't test this out at the show. I have asked for the gear ratio's but haven't received the info yet .... There is absolutely no room under the seat for my autocom - I think the idea is you buy the new Navigator V (bluetooth only) and then bluetooth to your helmet so more expense (and frustration when it doesn't work as well as the autocom!).

£15,350 for the TE + new panniers and topbox (probably ~ £950). Over £600 for the Navigator V means a spend of around £17k. My 2011 TB GSA is probably worth £9k at best now so it will be an £8k 'upgrade' after 2 years ... maybe I still will but only after I've had that test ride ...

I went for a ride on sunday with a mate that did the Australian GS safari, enduro section. He said that BMW announced the new GSA and gave some details:-
1) Lower first gear
2) Shorter wheelbase through steering angle and height changes.

The other changes I suspect we all know because we can see them. For me I don't like the tacked on look of the upper crash bar mount. The raw cut pipe which the bar welds to looks like an afterthought that could damage body parts going past it. Also having the upper crash bars fixed this way doesn't seem like a robust solution , perhaps this will look different when I see one in real life. Take out might be that the cost of the adventure with all the extras is a good deal compared to buying a Normal GS and bolting all the extras on, this could be a decider for many .

I went to NEC Friday.

Definitely wanted to like new 1200GSA WC but was under whelmed.

There is a lot of plastic there and the tank cubby hole thing is silly - it was broken on the stand model and won't last 2 minutes in the rough. Cue loads of 1200's with unsightly holes in their tank tops. I agree the protection bars make it look like an American teenager with teeth braces.

Looked over "Thingy's" long way round 1150 GSA and fell in love again with mine.

So it looks like the 1150 will be going down the Americas - cool, just saved myself £12000!

The 1200RT WC on the other hand looks a fabulous bike - very mature, well thought out and complete. Loved the dark grey colour. If I was buying the 1600GT again, I'd buy the 1200 instead (IYSWIM) - the new pan will need to be very good to beat the RT I feel.
