GS1200 Adventure has arrived in UK

..... He said that BMW announced the new GSA and gave some details:-
1) Lower first gear
2) Shorter wheelbase through steering angle and height changes.

I'm not sure about the lower 1st gear being correct. I asked BMW UK for the ratio's for the new GSA. They sent me the data sheet for 0A01 (which if I'm not mistaken is the WC GS) so other words the ratio's are exactly the same as the standard WC GS.

Wheelbase quoted is 1510mm which is the same as my 2011 GSA. Surprisingly, the alternator output is lower at 510 watts. According to: http://www.bmw-motorrad.de/de/de/index.html (the standard WC is rated at 580 watts and the 'old' GSA is 720 watts). Battery capacity is down too - 11.8 Ah vs 14 Ah

Of course, this could all be bollox but this is what I have gleaned so far from BMW UK and the german motorad site ....

You should have seen the look on the poor stand monkeys face when I tried to fit my iPhone in the cubbyhole hole...... I got the impression I was the 1,156 person that week to try to do it.... And say "shame they never made it big enough for an iPhone?"

Also by the Wednesday, the locking mechanism was showing signs of wear... And took a few goes to "click"...

He had a similar look when the beak graphics were mentioned....then ATT started on the headlight protector ... Pointing out the design would allow a load of crap to be drawn up the inside.......

His face said it all.... "go on fuck off".......

What a pair of cnuts!

Did you try an bmw assistance card? No of course you didn't, fits like a glove :D

As for it's poor manufacture, it's built to last as long as the first owner neds it. It needs to work half a dozen times before the bike will be traded in for the 2015 model :thumb

The graphics are childish..........errr, intended audience:blast

Headlight guard?..........yep, no excuse, it's feckin hideous:D

Order placed . Looking forward to the new engine (moving from a 2007) and the dynamic stuff. I liked it at the NEC. Can't understand the plastic criticisms, and the tank is not plastic.Larger flywheel should make it smoother, in theory. :pullface

Cant understand the plastic critisism..........it's feckin covered in it:blast plastic grills that do nowt, a plastic tank box thingy that is too small to carry anything big enough to pick up whilst wearing ya bike gloves, etc etc.

Enjoy, don't use solvol autosol on it, you'll damage it :D

My 07 had a plastic tank top, plastic side panels, plastic beak, plastic beak mouldings, plastic screen, plastic screen adjuster, plastic winglets, plastic switches, plastic grips, plastic hand guards, plastic mud guards, plastic starter motor cover, plastic shock cover, plastic rear top, plastic rear light, plastic indicators, plastic seat, plastic air box and was still the best bike that I've ever owned. I crashed it loads of times and guess what, NONE of the plastic bits needed any replacement. What's your problem with plastic? The metal screen mount fractured though :D

If I was buying the 1600GT again, I'd buy the 1200 instead (IYSWIM) - the new pan will need to be very good to beat the RT I feel.

New Pan? Have I missed something?

Ah, so the lure of the Duc MS was not strong enough after all...:D

I must say, i did like the new GSA in the flesh, and it just felt right (if you know what i mean) when i sat on it.
Loved the white, but i also quite liked the Kaki colour too.

I love the MTS, but it was the sight of a cramped pillion passenger, at the NEC , that has possibly killed thoughts of an mts.
The GSA is without doubt a better touring machine, better for the simple green lanes that I like, better wind protection and has that instant feel at home when climbed aboard.
It may be smoother, with its larger flywheel, but the MTS is lighter, smaller, amazing:D engine, better lights, I think, but horrendous running costs. For a solo rider, the MTS wins. Note, only a deposit so far :thumb2
I'd post a pic of the cramped pillion on the MTS, but its not fair to the two people on the MTS

I had an MTS 1200S Touring a couple of years ago; it had the famous electric steering lock fault (you know, when the clever electric steering lock doesn't unlock when you start the bike, and, ooh look I'm going round in circles). It also had a nice tendency to just cut out from time to time. In the end though the missus decided that the pillion seat was nfg and refused to get back on it. So I got rid, and bought a TC GSA instead, which was two years of fabulousness by comparison.

The MTS was a pretty thing and had a lovely, lovely motor but as an all-round package it's just nowhere as good as the GSA (or, for that matter, the LC GS).
