In the process of changing the tank on my 05 GS1200 to the adventure version. Have the tank, side panels badges etc and have identified the list of parts needed (gaskets, bolts etc) Wondered if any members either have for sale, willing to hire /lend, or have any tips, for removing the two metal retaining rings so I can transfer my exisiting pump and fit the "suck pump" I need to buy.
Live in Lincolnshire so could collect / return etc or bring both tanks over to fit etc. Also anyone have any Adventure crash bars for sale?

Happy New Year to all!!

If you are on about the pipe to hose clamps that need crimping, just remove them with a screwdriver and replace with the normal type jubilee clips.
It's easier for future work too.

Welcome to the site Bob and comps of the season to you to.

Fuel Tank Wrench

Hi Flatdog - Thanks for the reply. I was referring to the wrench needed to remove the large metal rings that hgold int fuel pump etc in place on the tank. The BMW wrench is £36 - looking to avoid having to buy one if possible. Seen some alternatives on Evilbay in the US but they would be more expensive that buying the Beemer part over here.

Regards
Bob

You don't need the wrench. When I did mine I carefully knocked off the rings with a large tipped screwdriver.

Block of wood, Use the grain end on to the ring and tap gently,

Another tip Do NOT do it when it's freezing outside

If it is cold outside thoroughly warm the ring with hot water in a towel laid over it for a few minutes before you start

Ooops This may be wrong as the rings to secure pumps were previously white plastic
