gsa 1200 review from a 26 year old new owner / teething issues

Hi Jonno sounds like a plan mate ! just wanna get a few lil things checked while it has this software update then im up for a ride out :)

Great review, thanks for posting.
Nice Photos too.

What a pity more 26 year olds don't ride ! Please encourage your friends otherwise this industry is doomed ! Most of us here are the wrong side of 50 .

So, to understand this. It has oodles of electricickry and integrated everything, but an analogue speedo that bounces?

yep early ones had a batch of dodgy speedos on the adv's mines getting sorted this friday :) also you can get the speed on the nav5 big as you want along with other oodles of information about the bike :)
also is a way to get the speed digital on the bikes screen along with the analouge best of both worlds i guess

totally agree though shame there arn't more people my age riding are a few though me and my little cousin are off to cornwall in 2 weeks buying panniers and thinking of a givi touring screen for my height, fitted with the one of the normal gsw at the moment

Cheers,

Tom

So about a year on from getting the GSA,

Been a few ups and a few downs,

Findings so far are as follows,

Fitted the Puig Touring Screen with Cymarc brackets,
Absolutely brilliant wind protection on the motorway in the upper position with hardly any buffering, just right at 6'2 I can see right over the screen which rocks for me but kept me out of some really bad weather on a big trip to cornwall - Hailstorm etc.

Tyres - Avon Road riders,
Absolutely brilliant, hit the Mudsling though which I've removed for now till I get some time to carry out the modification for fitting it with the Avon's can't wait to try that, when it comes between the Mudsling or the Avons' I'd choose the Avons for the extra feel and quietness on the bike,

Globe scout Panniers,
Not sure if these are my best buy to be honest, look amazing finish is beautiful, but on a trip to cornwall they leaked quite bad resulting in everything getting drenched, thinking of the bmw ones to replace them or run some extra sealant on all the rivets if I can figure out the leaking,

The bike,
Brilliant handling and an engine that excites, doesn't like being bimbled sometimes though, - looking at re mapping at hilltop, to sort the surging
rain mode calms it for a bit then it comes back.

Brakes - really good feel them pulsing sometimes with the abs after they were bled at the last service anyone get this?

Seat Height, 6'2 32 inch inseam great apart from sometimes when it gets sketchy putting your feet down if the road falls off pot hole or off camber
just got Cymarc lowering cams to try with a further 10 mm drop (note though I do wear Dianese Axial Pro inner race boots only ones that fit my slim feet so not much on the soles of the boots looking for a slim fitting boot with a high sole next)

Looks
Comments everywhere I go none stop haha makes my dads gsx-r 750 look tiny and is so much comfier to not touched my fire blade since Ive owned the bmw

Reliability

Questionable so far to be honest, nothing major apart from things that have been caused at dealers,
New Set of Clocks - needle bouncing few issues with the ESA locking solid with no warning,
Currently looking at a new engine/final drive for corrosion issues,
also had some with the frame and crash bars although I don't think much chance of that under 20k miles and 2 years in not to happy about that one

Costs-
Here's the killer 350 quid average service 450 for the extended warranty with break down works out 30 a month or so for the warranty doesn''t cover everything but does some things and the price of the parts re a killer so worth it for me

currently got the repayments on the HP at 200 a month 2 services at 350 + pads and the extended warranty so the running costs are quite high, on minimum wage at work long story so do feel it a bit.

Question is would I keep it,

Currently not so sure brilliant bike but everything isn't about speed when I do think of getting rid something draws me right back to it bit of an intoxicating ride.
1150 adventure is the next move I think maybe instead of some of my rd 350 lc's

Now the interesting stuff pictures :D

Hope this helps some people thinking of A LC

Good quality photos, what's the camera?

I have a 2015 GSA and it runs totally smooth with no snatching at all, although my previous GS-LC (light crank) did suffer with a bit of snatching at around 3,000-ish revs.

Pleased to hear that you are loving it, they are a truly awesome machine!

Get the 1150 GSA, twice the bike in terms of ownership experience

It's not all about gadgets

Apart from heated grips, what more do you need?

aye for the miles I'm planning on doing with it makes sense to self service which is the 1150 GSA all over :)

A bicycle would be even cheaper to run and you would have the pleasure of seeing even more of the countryside at a more leisurely place.

Scanning through the pics I was just thinking "this dude knows how to take a picture for sure", now all clear...

Urgency in the engine??

I'm guessing your Fireblade must have had an issue or two if you reckon a duffer engined GSA has some urgency :D

haha nah I meant urgency for the type of bike like a eager puppy wanting to play, I'd describe the blade as a jet engine power delivery wise so smooth and silky have to be on a track to get the usage out of it though or your just in low gears all the time , bit different to my Tz 350 G now that thing does have some rip your arms of urgency

Ride stacks of different bikes so depends what I'm comparing it to horses for courses :beerjug:

26 years old a weighing 11 stone? Far too young and light to be a tosser!

Fuck off and don't darken this forum agai until both have doubled :D

haha cheers matey :beer jug: put a few stone on now grand total of 13 LOL seat still kills haha,

If i keep it and don't go 1150 then first thing on the agenda really with some boots with thicker soles lol

I thought you were going to post some pictures of the proper LC's?

Go on...........show us a few of your RD's eh? :thumb2

sure can

got some better pics just low res ones off my old phone, got some videos from track days at Oulton but shall have to dig them out :) building one completely from new old stock parts a 250 lc got 2x 250 lc's and 2x 350 lc's and the Tz 350 Harris amongst other classics :)

Black 250 I go to work on proper Little work horse
