GSA Not That Tall! - Deposit Placed

Congrats!!! I used to run my GS in rider + baggage preload, with the seat in high position. On the GSA, its the same preload, but with the seat in the low position, so i guess the difference is about 20mm? The GSA, is (in my humble opinion :D ) the better bike of the two.

hi Bullmac
I am almost the exact height like you.

can you please give me an email address so that I can ask you about the seat and configuration.

I am afraid of ordering a GSA that is too high for me :(

thank you.
Hi I'm not not sure how to direct message on here, I'm still new
If you can message me I'm happy to chat.

The config on the demo bike I rode was -
A 2015 Plate GSA TE.
Standard GSA Seat, Set in low Position (according to BMW - 890mm).

My config is -
Height 5'8" - 5'9".
29" Inside leg.
I do have thick legs though so the effective drop may be greater for me, and I was wearing my forma adventure boots. They add maybe 20mm to the soles over my Alpinestars Sports boots.

I was extremely dubious that I would be able to ride the bike and thought it would most likely be too high even with lowered suspension. Your best bet is to book a test ride at your local dealership, and just try it out. It's the only way to find out.

Thanks, yeah the difference is 20mm.
890mm low setting - 910mm high setting on standard seat. A bit higher with the rally seat you have fitted.

What difference in seat height would you say there is between 1 helmet and 1+ luggage on preload setting?

I think its also around 20mm, the seat height feels the same to me in single rider+ seat in high position and Rider+luggage+seat in low position. I don't find the rally seat any taller to be honest. Its thinner and perhaps easier to put your foot down although changed the riding experience slightly because you can move the bike around underneath you much more easily. I'm not sure but I think BMW quote it's height in the higher position, i dont think its meant to go in the low position on the front, but if you removed the little rubber inserts, where the seat normally sits, i can get it to click in comfortably with the front and rear mounts set to low.

Brilliant, cheers for that. Look like I won't be changing preload then unless I decide to have my seat lowered. I found the bike just too tall with seat in high setting.

I had a 2012 bmw gs adventure, with the standard seat on low setting, it was unrideable for me, I could barely touch my toes.
I am 173cm and 80cm inseam.

I had bought the touratech extra low seat for same bike and I used the bike every day for two years without problems except when I need to reverse when seated.

can somebody confirm that the LC version is in fact lower in terms of seat height and inner leg curve?

thank you.

As others have said, the differences are minimal in the way they ride so something must have been wrong with the bike you rode. It's basically the same bike with some extras

I'm not disagreeing with you, it does sound like there could have been something wrong with the bike. But on reflection I'm thinking it was just down to having ridden the bike again, if I had taken a standard GS out second time I may have felt the same. But to your point about them being basically the same bike, surely the main differences between the bikes, other than aesthetics, is the suspension and bike geometry? Don't you think this in some way could account for my preceived diffence in ride quality?

Best you go in and try a demo, I had a TC 2012 gsa and the LC does feel lower and easier to manage, they also do a lowered version that takes nothing away from the look of the bike

Just arrived home from picking it up. Very happy!

I was surprised how easy and natural it feels to filter on! It's surprisingly easy to manoeuvre around on the drive as well.

The only thing I have noticed so far is that i need to be very aware of the road surface when pulling up to stop at lights, etc.
Also my leg is a bit short to reach the side stand comfortably at full extension. This isn't too much of an issue when putting the bike on the stand as it flicks out once you get it far enough, but I had a bit of a wobble taking it off the stand in the supermarket carpark.
