So I went to start my 2008 GS Adventure after work as usual and, look at that! No start button! Gone! Clearly it hadn't dropped off, it had been nicked. Anyone heard of this before? Are BMW going to charge me £££s for a new button? The kill switch is still there, it's literally just the grey button. I am starting the bike now by poking a bit of stout wire into the hole to activate the switch. Very annoying but not life threatening.

do a search, has happened before, you really think it was stolen?

knob

My sons button fell out on his GS650, I think there is some sort of grip washer holds it in.
Main dealer just shrugged?

probably a complete right hand switchgear required, I don't think they sell the parts separately as they don't even sell the switches inside let alone the buttons.

I wish I could say the button was there when I arrived at work, but who checks the start button is in its correct location when they switch off? Could it have fallen off? Am I assuming the worst of the human race by jumping to the conclusion that it had been stolen? I have to admit to being very surprised as I was under the impression that the GS rider was a better class of person....

Same thing happened to me, managed to get a secondhand button from James Sherlock, the main dealer will only supply a complete switch cluster ( about £160 at the time ) !
My button had been held in by a circlip, which I found in two pieces inside the cluster when I took it apart, had to get one of those as well.
