Finally found clear road, away from other vehicles, quiet time of day, remote area etc etc. and in the right frame of mind. Revved out in top (without panniers) indicated 125mph.

Bit disappointed really, my 1150 (remus, K&N, BBchip, wider intakes) used to manage (indicated) 130 with panniers and it was torquier low down.

Maybe there's a big difference in speedo accuracy?

I've only done just short of 2000 miles - will it improve?

This sort of thing doesn't really bother me and I still love the bike, I just assumed it would be faster, probably aerodynamics are playing a part? my 1150 wasn't an adventure.

Anybody added more than a can to the new model? is it making much difference?

Indicated isn't really any more than that. GPS, or even better a speeding camera photo is much more useful. ;)

BTW I've had a overdrive 1150 and a enduro box 1150 GSA and reckon the GSA is "faster" as it gets to the top speed without the need for falling off a cliff.

One year old GS1200, indicated 123 mph, GPS 125 mph, no panniers, screen halfway down (or up?), short arsed, 11.5 stone rider, Nurburgring.

I've seen 130+ on my clocks. Didn't have GPS on at the time, but when it is on it shows speedo is accurate to 2 mph at 110+.

Haven't tried a high speed run since fitting Laser full system. It'll be interesting to see whether it makes any difference.

Standard GSA, rolling on in top gear (not revving out) long straight 127mph (GPS), motor was still tight (just 2,000miles), reckon more to come.

crumbs, i must be carrying too much stuff - no way I could get to those speeds, even on the salt flats of utah!

1150 adv was wildly optomistic on the speedo.about 12mph over at 100. You could cure it by fiting a speedo drive from an 1100s which made it bang on accurate. My 1200 hits 120 indicated with full panniers on & a lardy assed rider. (118 on the gps).

If I took off the luggage I reckon it might be good for 125ish. Does 130 down hill though. Helps to have the wind behind & cold damp atmospheric conditions.

I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Just weird that there seems to be less torque and no real top end increase

top end

i've said it before, but the motor doesn't feel happy above 100mph. I've screwed its tail up to 125mph but i was covering the clutch in case she blew...

i guess i might be too sympathetic, but i haven't been accused of that before!

i await the motor smoothing out as the miles accumulate. 7000 done so far.

Patrick.

the 1200gs and gsa are pretty gutless re top end performance, i do miss the top end rush of my fireblade :tears

Standard 1200GSwith about 4k on the clock, long straight road on the other side of the channel with 11.5 stone rider on board, screen on lowest setting and no luggage other than a small tail pack.
Ran up to the rev limiter happily at an indicated 136 but suspect a GPS would have said a good bit less. :nenau

Am happy to say it felt as solid as a rock and didn't feel as if the engine was about to go pop.

Andrew

I must have a goodun!

145mph tonight on the Macclesfield Road & it was still going! No one caught me! But, mpg suffer if you behave like that down to 55 per gall.

Mind you I have taken the mudflap thing off & use V power fuel with a cup of derv per tankfull.

:)

I had a quick "see what she'll do" blast on my standard 1200 a while back once she settled in after 24k servide with throttles balanced etc, got an indicated 130 and still pulling. Thats quick enough on what feels like a sherman tank compared to my old sportsbike. I think the more miles you put on them, the sweeter they run (until things start to wear out of course).

I know what you mean about a lack of top end rush though, I need to buy a new sportsbike to complement my GS, how can I convince 'er indoors ??

Hmmm, that 2007 R1 in MCN looks nice. ;)
