H.I.D lamps

Mention the UKGSer website when you email him. He's had a few bollockings and has said he will look after tossers with extra care. Expect 3-4 weeks to do liver (sorry, deliver). Might get stung with additional £15 import duty but he has told me this is unlikely with his current supplier. Still cheaper than anywhere else.:thumb2

Bernie, that bloke is a bit of a doughnut. I've just bought my last pair from a supplier on ebay. Ok, he's more expensive (£114 delivered) but he's bloody reliable. Postage was 2 days. One of the ballasts didn't work, I emailed him and he replied back in a about 10 minutes, apologised profusely and promised to get another to me asap!

I'll copy ya comments to him DD. I have to say he can be shite but he assured me he would sort it out. Obviously he hasn't. You try and help some people and they always let ya down.
Sorry it didn't work out for ya. How's the night burners lookin now dude?

Not fitted them into the fogs as yet but sparked one up the other night, Jesus they're feckin bright...

Just found out too that this particular ballast is known as a 'smart ballast' which doesn't cause the CANBUS to trigger the 'lamp out warning' message on the 12!

Had to do a bit of 'modding' last night to the burners. Had to get me little Dremel out and sand down the nibs on the side of the burners as they wouldn't fit into the fog lamp housing. Also, the H11 burners were a different shape to the OEM one's, they are straight as opposed to a right angle. Doesn't make any difference as they still fit into the beemer fogs ok.

Still working on an alternative place to mount the ballasts as opposed to fitting under the beak, each side of the fuel tank is looking promising? Can only use zip ties for attachment though...:(

Still 'toying' with the idea of doing the main beam. I'm still of the opinion that the longevity of the ballast will be drastically reduced with the constant switching on/off. I don't think there would be any problems with the transformer itself, after all it's only the constant increasing and collapsing of a magnetic field to produce the high/low voltage. It's the switch that controls ignition that I envisage the problems with. Time will tell I guess with bikes out there with this mod already done?

Are there any bikes out there with the main beam converted over 12 months old, with lots of main beam on/off use?

Hmm. Well, M has responded fairly swiftly to all email info requests, but that's not the same as delivering the goods. DD, are you allow to say who your ebay supplier was in here?

Finished converting the fogs this morning, and the results are amazing!

Standard 55w halogen lamp on the right and 35w 6000k burner on the left!

Headlamp is a 4300k burner, the difference in colour temperature is quite noticeable!

Hi

Colour availability: 4300K, 6000K, 8000K, 10000K, 12000K
what is the best colour.????????:blast

jeff

Depends what for.

White light is 5600K (google "5600K" or "5600 Kelvin" for a zillion references to white light or daylight). But as far as I know no-one makes HIDs for vehicles at 5600k.

5000k or 6000k are going to be close enough. 5000k lights will generally be of slightly higher utility as the human eye is more sensitive to yellow light that blue light (thus high contrast lenses are yellow or orange tinted).

The more you go below 5000k, the more of a yellow tint is in the light. The more you go above 6000k the more blue the light is (and the less contrast you will get from that light).

I think 5000k is as good a compromise as any when you consider all the variables. Though I find 6000K light has a fantastic purity to it. As for 8000, 10000 and 12000 ... forget them. 4300K is OEM HIDs but they look a little too yellow for my taste.

I run 6000k in my 1150 Adv - seems fine to me, it is only when I am on main and can see the dip and main side by side that I really notice the difference in colour and realise how much whiter the HID is.

hid

Hi
Some of the hid kits come with a relay wiring harness
to wire to the battery. Are all the kits the same or
do some just plug in to the back of the light?:nenau :nenau :nenau

Has anyone used one of these? :rob :rob :rob 50w 6000K
looks like a lot of wires is this OK or is there some other way
of doing it :nenau :nenau :nenau

is xelux a good make

thanks for all the info

Most of these HID kits are being knocked out of china, some with Bosch, Hella etc branded on them.......fakes IMO from what we can gather? Still, they do the trick and are very simple to install. My last kit came with a harness, I didn't use it. These kits are just plug'n'play. So, very straight forward to install.

I know Colebatch talked about fitting the 50w kit, I can't begin to imagine how bright that is, 35w is more than enough really... I believe the ballasts are somewhat larger on the 50w kit?

Is 35 watts enough? especially when the car driver next you you has the benefit of 2 x 35 watts ? How much light is enough light ... and how many yachts can you waterski behind? :guitarist

I believe the ballasts are somewhat larger on the 50w kit?

Actually I might have be wrong on that.... I was just playing with a genuine Hella 35 watt unit out on the floor next to one of the 50 watt ballasts, and the 50 watter is smaller. So I guess it depends on the individual unit. But the 50 watt ballasts I get are 88 x 88 x 30 mm.

See photo:The 50 watt ballast is on the left, and the Hella 35 watt ballast is on the right

Fitted a 6K 35w to the low beam today, very bright and alot more of a blue tint than I thought. Only checked they worked and there wasn't a drama with the bulb warning light so looking forward to a night ride, how long after first switching on do they take to 'warm' up and reach maximum brightness? only ask as I think I've read here before there's an initial warm up period.:)

A matter of 2 or 3 seconds, take a screwdriver to adjust the beam when you go out :thumb

First use they are always have a higher colour temp. They will settle down to the proscribed 6000K after about 10-15 hours use. Then from there the colour temp gradually lowers over the 2000 - 3000 hour life of the burner by about another 200K
