maybe ground fire risk, polution and also close proximity to airfield

Seem to remeber that the Aardvark was originally designed to be a joint service fighter / bomber, operating from carriers so maybe that's why it had a hook? The USN rejected it but the Aussies bought it in preference to TSR2. (Let's not start that debate again!)
