Has anyone made a Hall Effect tester ?

I have 2 bean can ignition trigger units in my spares stash.

I know one of them doesn’t work but no idea of the status of the other.

A google search pulled up Rob Frankhams design for a Hall Effect tester..

..and I quite fancy having a go at making one.

I’ve pulled together some of the parts required but still a few to source

Just wondered if anyone has already trodden this path or if there was any interest (if successful) in making a small batch ?

Thanks for the link Tim.

I hadn’t seen the multimeter test process.

I am hoping to come up with something that works and is small enough that I can:

1. Carry on the bike for diagnostic purposes
2. Take to autojumbles to do a quick test on any units I’m fortunate enough to find

Jury rigged to prove the concept..

Mk2 a little tidier

Would look nicer with some sheathing to cover the wires.

Mk3 will include a microswitch to turn the unit on an off and test the led.

Also need to look for a small electrical box to house the gubbins leaving only the test plug on a flylead.

It works though and my spare bean can appears to be in good health.

I can take Mk1 with me to autojumbles to quickly test any bean cans I find to confirm status.
