Does anyone know if it's possible to buy an inline volume control for headphones that could be mounted on the handlebars?

I have a DAB radio plugged into my Autocom and have an inline control sat in the top box to set the level correctly. Unfortunately this means that I can't access it whilst moving and also I can't mount it on the bars as it's so tiny that it would be unusable with gloves. It's also not waterproof.

I thought about buying a Starcom volume control and taking it apart to modify it. This is on the assumption that the volume control is actually a waterproof potentiometer. I could solder on my own 3.5mm jack plugs to fashion something, but it's £30 down the drain if it turns out that it's not actually a waterproof pot.

It's a long shot, but since I've never seen inside one I thought I'd ask.

Thanks

It looks like the volume control from that kit may be a goer, but I don't need the amplifier.

Unfortunately the DAB radio outputs at headphone level, but the Autocom inputs at line level. As such I require the inline volume control to lower the volume, not increase it.

I've had a reply from the guy who makes the Amplirider. I asked him if he'd sell me just the remote volume control and explained my requirement. Here is his reply:-

"Although it looks like it would function as a stand-alone volume adjuster, the AmpliRider's remote volume controller would not work this way. The controller is a dual audio potentiometer and it controls the amp's gain level. An audio signal would not pass through the way it is wired up internally.

If I changed the internal wiring the resistance of the potentiometer would still be too high. Because a number of riders have been looking for something like this, I did try to find a dual audio potentiometer with a low enough resistance but could not. I even looked again before writing this email to see if anything new came out on the market. "

Ah well - back to the drawing board
