Did both passes in August on my Serow (easy peasy) & spent a good 20 minutes being amused by a large minibus emptying all its passengers so they could give it a bit of a starting push & then left them to walk to the top

Met a couple of Germans at the Hardknott pub - one had left his big Harley in a layby half-way down because the clutch had burned out

Don't forget to stop to admire the Roman Fort too

Went over both passes earlier in the year. Had to wait for half hour cause these 2 jokers where a bit stuck

I was up there last Saturday with my mate on our Stelvios, there weren't many bikes about that day.

i was up there yesterday ,that would be 17/10/13 brill ride and a coffee at the little train station,did anyone see the burnt out citreon picasso ,what a place for things to go wrong,one tip if your going over keep moving dont stop as you will not be able to get your foot down .

Also, if you are following other vehicles don't get too close to them, they can suddenly stop on the approach to an hairpin leaving you stranded with no where to stop safely. When following others always identify somewhere you can stop safely and wait whilst they get round the next hairpin.

Be aware of the "electric Brae" effect if you decide to park up. One year I decided to stop at the Fort, thought I'd identified a nice area of flat road to pull over and park. As I got off the bike I felt it start to roll forward, off the side stand, fortunately I was able to stop it going over and moved it to another spot. All the angles of the surrounding hills made the original parking spot appear flat, it wasn't
