Hi, as the title, I am looking to upgrade my indicators to LED and wanted to know what is involved?
Cheers Justin

No, I would like the ones that come on the newer BMW's, so just change the whole unit.

Yes. I bought the various bits from Motorworks, you need the 4 indicators plus an adapter wire for each. Very simple job.

Yes it's not cheap .... but I then sold my old (clear) indicators on ebay for around £12 each which mitigated a good chunk of the cost.

I did it
Easy job took my time - done a lovely job - fitted the rear ones first - bought my mrs out to show her the difference between the front and back - she said clever git I will make you a nice cuppa - while she went in I sat down and fitted the front ones
Was at this point I realised I had fitted the front ones on the rear
COCK springs to mind - but I waited for Mrs to bring me tea and bikkies and go inside before I did it correctly

I did mine a couple of years ago.:thumb Just plug and play, didn't take long. No software update needed.:beerjug:

Sounds a lot easier than doing a rear light upgrade (done due corrosion on original rather than ponce appeal)

Have to agree, currently have all the bits looking at me to do the rear light, like pikey corrosion and the lampr with nothing wrong, are reasons for changing. Already have upgraded indicators.

Need the help of a friendly dealer to "trick" CANBUS into steping down 12v to 5v for the LEDs. they also ripped my alarm out (never used it) as it was fuckin up the re-programming.
cost a bit in the end but having a sealed for life unit & never pissing about with corroded bulb holders is worth it. (He said trying to justify it in his head...)

So, am I right in thinking I need 4 bmw led indicators and the adapter for wiring for each one, motorworks £120 for the indicators and £20 for the adapter kit which includes the 4???????????????

Should it not be just 4 indicators that have a wire and a plug attached that's it... (same wire and plug on the old ones). :nenau If in doubt phone a dealership for info

I assume you are talking about the BMW ones not the LED to trick canbus aftermarket jobies :nenau

Adapter kit, what's to adapt ? :nenau

BMW now sell an adapter kit which does all the steping down and should be plug and play. Well I'll find out over the winter as all the bits get fitted and others get rebuilt.

I have fount he complete set of indicators and adapter kit for £135 from BMW, I does state on the website that a software update maybe needed aswell? Did anyone have to do this or did they all just work, by the way mine is a 2004 bike, I don't know if this would make any difference, just don't want to have to take it to BMW to be updated as that would incur extra cost. Cheers Justin

Well it is all changed and worked first time no trip to the dealer looks great and is nicely sealed to prevent LampR.

Looking at the back of the old one no wonder they go wrong what a heap of sh*t for an off road bike well for any bike really, and the corrosion on the indicator holder is not good so that is being stripped out and "improved"
