Hi folks, post no.1

Have read most of the posts on this forum and am not overly concerned about my new bike but have had something that was not expected.

I thought I could smell fuel in the garage but didn't attribute it to the bike. A White one.

After a ride with the wife up to Sand Spit (NZ) I noticed a trickle of some fluid coming down the left hand cylinder and crank case towards the side stand.

Turns out I have a fuel leak. Back to the dealer...fixed. Next day back to the dealer to fix again. This time found. A crack in a large fuel fitting underneath the tank...not sure what it is called but I had a look and sure enough there was a crack.

Robbed the part off another GS in the shop and now I'm fixed.

However 2 things.

One. I have a stain caused by the fuel running down the motor that I can't get rid of. Any advice. The dealer has offered to get it painted? But I can see that lasting a year or two before peeling off.

And more concerning is that on the trip home my computer started to do some odd things. The oil indication became intermittent and also at cruising speed I could access the Setup menu.

I am concerned that the fuel may have jeopardized some of the electronics.

Otherwise after being on the K1200RS and then the R1150GS this bike still has me smiling....sad about my fuel stain tho.

Kind Regards

I would have thought that the leak would not harm the electronics, so keep an eye on that. Take the dealer up on the repaint and ask for a written guarantee of the work.

It's always disheartening when your new beast has a problem, it may have been associated with dealer assembly or shipping after having been shipped all the way to kiwi land - I would request a replacement part not a paint job ! Anyhow you will have years of pleasure - white ones are faster :D
