It appears from my 911 that my ‘09 GS has an open circuit on lh heated grip.

I’m sure it worked ok on Friday but following a good wash, oil and filter change.

I wonder if I could have done anything, has anyone come across any similar experiences?

Failing that, anyone got a spare one lying around? Or suggest best place to buy?

TIA

Bmw last one I bought was about £105 if I remember

Yup, the OEM heated grips ain’t cheap. When mine give up the ghost, they will be replaced with a pair of Oxford grips. Top quality, last well and give off good heat.

I do have the same issue.

I suspect the problem is in the cable, not in the grips, but no idea how to find the broken section :(

There is a common problem with a (dry joint) where the cables are soldered onto the grips under the rubber.
it involves pealing back the rubber and using a good sized soldering iron to remake the joints. The joints look good , but are not.
Worth a try, it costs nothing and it has worked for me in the past.
I seem to remember that there was a post on here somewhere with photo`s.

Is it the left hand side? If so possibly be a damaged / loose cable from lifting it on and off the stand

Thanks, I'll have a look.
MY heated grips stopped working after the bike was stripped down to remove the front frame to straighten it, and the reinstall it all.
I always assumed the cable got pinched somewhere in the process. But makes sense to inspect the joint on the grips.
I replaced the rubber a few years ago and could do with another change...

There is bloke on YouTube that shows what to do but it’s a bugger getting the rubber off the actual grip , I tried and it was a total mess so jus bought a new one , 10 mins to replace .

I've done that job already when I replaced the grips the first time.
I just have to take off the current ones, no more need for cutting.

Is it possible to replace the grips with aftermarket such as Oxford and retain the use of the standard switches etc? I guess probably not?

I did replace the rhs grip on my last one. I’ll check connections and try to trace cable back to a point the should allow me to find any open circuit.
The rhs on current bike, ironically the working side has a patch that is actually worn through, clearly I must have been gripping it too hard or trying to twist it too hard!
So I’ll be buying full lhs heated grip and replacing the rubber on the rhs(before I damage the element underneath.
