Yes the old chestnut again, I have been through most of the threads regarding this subject and have not picked up on the following point, I believed that I did not have compatible handlebars to fit heated grips but each time I thought about it I could not understand why BMW would not make provisions to allow them to be retro fitted. (850 GS)
My bars are hollow and they do have holes in the base of them but no provisions to allow the wire to be fed from the bar ends to the center of the bar.
I applied some force with a small pair of stealsons on the end of the bar ( to see if the ends would unscrew so I could get the ends machined) only to hear loud shattering of plastic and as if by magic bright shiny black “rebates or channels” were exposed which allowed the fitting of heated grips as per normal.
It makes sense to infill the channel with plastic otherwise the rubber grip would collapse into the channel in time, but to the naked eye it looked like a mild steel sleeve. I was not the only one to be folled by this cunning BMW trickary!.
